In the highly anticipated sequel to her acclaimed memoir, Book of Shadows, Phyllis Curott explores the power of magic to manifest love in a captivating mix of love story, spirituality, Wiccan spell book, and erotica.
This is the story of a love spell that worked. Ivy League lawyer and Wiccan priestess Phyllis Curott has a supercharged career in law and filmmaking, but one thing is missing: love. She casts a sexy spell, and her dream lover soon arrives. But he's not who he appears to be and there are unforeseen consequences. In this hip, compelling tale of spiritual and sexual awakening, she must seek the aid of an otherworldly suitor, a daemon, to discover how modern relationships and their problems are paths to the greatest magic of all—true love. This wise and erotic memoir is rich with spells, potions, and rituals for love. The author shares accessible techniques of sexual magic for the accomplishment of personal goals and growth, revealing how sexual ecstasy can lead to the discovery of our innate divinity and an empowered life.

Author's Notes: So many people wrote asking when I’d write the sequel to "Book of Shadows" that I’m very happy to announce the publication of "The Love Spell." The book begins prior to the opening of "Book of Shadows", then moves ahead in time to pick up where the first memoir left off. It tells the story of how I cast a love spell, how the spell materialized, and the sexual and spiritual journey that provoked. And just as Book of Shadows focused on my discovery of the Goddess, this memoir focuses on my discovery of the God.
I wanted to share what I had learned about the mysteries and magic of love. I do lots of media, conferences, lectures and workshops and one of the most commonly asked questions is: Can you do a love spell for me? It’s probably the number one interest of just about everyone, whether they practice Wicca or not.
Like my first memoir, I wanted to write a book that was unique, that was more than just another collection of love spells and recipes, or how-to sex magic. No one’s written a first hand account of the real magic of love and how magic really can bring love into your life. I wanted to share my story, a story that would open the reader’s heart and transport them into realms of magic where true love does await us and sexuality is a path to the Sacred.
I’ve had an amazing journey to the discovery that love, like divinity, is not fully known until it’s experienced in the body. Contrary to a long, repressive history that has separated sex from the Sacred, we are the embodiment of divine energy, and sex is one of the most powerful and accessible ways for each of us to experience that radiance, that reality.
Given the embattled state of the world, and especially as a New Yorker who witnessed the madness personally, I wanted to write a book that was inspiring, sexy, romantic, full of enchantment, hope and the kind of spiritual wisdom that’s as close to you as the person you love. And although the so-called “culture wars” had not yet begun, I’m glad that I wrote a book that confronts and challenges the forces of cultural and sexual repression, a book that’s a juicy, joyful affirmation of desire, pleasure and our capacity to love. I had to challenge my own inhibitions to confront those of our culture; it was so difficult to write erotic love scenes in the first person – especially at the beginning, writing felt as if I was making love in public. But I decided to bare my heart, my soul, my desires and experience, as a kind of mirror hoping that people will recognize in themselves the very best of who we are, and who we might become. Because I believe that nothing is more expressive of our humanity -- and divinity -- than making love. Making love – it’s a capacity charged with grace and desperately needed by a wounded world.
Through all the ceaseless transformations, the struggles and uncertainties, there is one eternal truth – love. Like the divine, love is brought into the world by and through us, and it is also the force that brings us into the world. How deeply love is felt and nourished, how widely it is shared, how powerfully love works its miracles and magic is up to us. It’s our choice, and if we choose, it’s our destiny.
And finally, there’s a secret I promised to share when the book was done. When I began writing this memoir I didn’t know what the ending would be – because it hadn’t happened yet. But deep down inside, I knew what I wanted it to be. I wrote envisioning the love that I have imagined since I was a little girl, hearing my first fairy tale of true love. "The Love Spell" is not just the story of a love spell -- the book itself is a love spell, cast by being written. And a month after the first draft of the book was finished, that love spell manifested. I found the real ending of my book and the beginning of true love.
"The Love Spell" shares the wisdom that transformed my longings into love, the kind of love everyone yearns for and that we can all have. Just as "Book of Shadows" triggered magic in the lives of readers, I hope "The Love Spell" helps readers find the love that’s meant for them.
Magic is real, and love is the most powerful magic there is!
