Our Troth, Volume 2: Living the Troth
Author: Kveldulf Gundarsson
Category: Asatru/Heathen Level: All
There are many variations, names, and practices in Heathenry -- the reborn pre-Christian religion of the Germanic peoples. These include Asatru, Theodism, Irminism, Odinism, and Anglo-Saxon Heathenry, among others. What unites all Heathens is a defining personal loyalty to, or Troth with, the Gods and Goddesses of the Northlands; a deep respect for our religious, cultural, and historical heritage; and the determination to practice the moral principles followed by our noble predecessors.
Our Troth was first published in 1993, but has been out of print for many years. This second edition contains new writing by its original compiler, Kveldulf Gundarsson, and by over fifty other Heathen writers, all edited by Gundarsson and by the Troth's Publications Director and well-known author Diana L. Paxson. It contains both updated and expanded academic scholarship on our history and religion, and the fruits of the personal insights and reflections of many Heathen folk. Our Troth is one book that every practicing Heathen, and indeed everyone who has ever heard the call of the ancient Northlands, will want on his or her shelf. Our Troth is the single most comprehensive book ever published on Heathenry.
The second edition has been divided into two volumes. Volume 1, History and Lore, was released in April 2006, and covers the history of this religion, and the Gods, Goddesses, and other beings that receive honor and worship in Heathenry. Volume 2, Living the Troth, was released in August 2007. It covers ways to practice and live Heathenry, with advice on ritual design, theory and performance; kindred organization and tribalism; and legal issues that may be encountered. It discusses the major seasonal rites and life-passage rites of Heathenry, drawing on ancient texts and archaeology, recent folk practices, and customs that have grown up among modern Heathens. It also includes an extensive glossary, pronunciation guide, and reading list.
Where To Buy: Currently, Our Troth Vol. 2 may be ordered through Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk.
