Confessions of the Gods|
Poems of the Pagan Revolution, The Herodeia Decalogue
Author: David Seals
Category: Poetry Level: Advanced
People have been trying to destroy the Sacred Peaks at Flagstaff for centuries, with the railroad, Riordan family loggers, Babbitt family merchants, miners, cowboys overgrazing the public lands like their own private pastures for the hooved locusts of cattle, and now tourists and skiers, racists who want to gid rid of all Hispanics like they tried with Apaches or Navajoes, but Mother Earth is retaliating against them. She is burning away a lot of the worthless Forest Service exploitation of the Peaks in 4 huge fires at the summer solstice, circling the town. People build roads and campfires and biker businesses, and then cry they're losing their adolescent playgrounds to the fires they started in the first place. They have no ethical civilization, and it's good Flagstaff lost bookstores and schools this past year, the larcenous housing market is way down, the Gov't is fighting with each other in their usual ugly corruption, and now THE WILDFIRES!
POEMS OF THE PAGAN REVOLUTION starts with a new rhymed Ode, in 6 pages, titled 'In Quiescent' and subtitled 'In and Over New York City the day and night John Lennon died'. Then there are 6 shorter rhymed elegies to the Death Goddess and Night Mare from my 1990 book 'The Poetic College':
on the Mediterranean Sea,
of the Night Mare where She
devours poets, white
in Her nest in the rock-cleft crags
on the shores where lovers, hags
music and mothers dreaming of daughters
beside the spine-chilling waters
There's a brief excerpt about the Iroquois/Huron 'Alliance of Peace' Konsonionnwe and the Prophet Deganawidah, from my unpublished 1995 verse history 'Armorica'; short blank verse excerpt from the 2000 verse-novel 'The Libyad' about a Jihadi peace-warrior from Libya imprisoned in America as a terrorist.
Major section with 11 chapter-length, epic narratives in 10-syllable blank verse 'The War in Heaven', from 'The Creation Myth', detailing the gods and goddesses of today trying to deal with the human destruction of Mother Earth:
"The Void, " God said, "was not my father's fault.
Neither is it philosophy, Athene, my darling girl,
nor particularly evolutionary the Species Merger.
Cronos must pardoned be, if ever we're to win,
and mankind reduced in pride to its former place
in animal status equal to the kingdom of Plants.
No, I see your astonishment and hear your cries
for merciless war as heretofore we waged of Old,
and I understand. Forgiveness will not come soon.
But come it must if ever reconciliation arrive
in heaven and on earth, begun unavoidably
long before there was The Beginning without end,
ere even of gods unthought were We
or It we call Evil and Good themselves. Yes.
'Tis vain for us to say immortal even are We,
or I, or You my children conceived in liberty.
Yes, I'm not so great to know a circle's ending.
I'm not so wise to judge Disobedience's beginning
in the Infinitude of an animate Wheel Immanent.
Are you? Is Cronos, whom we like to label Satanic?
Not I. Oh no. Defeat in many things has proven me
unproven invincibility, unconvincing, poetic grammar.
Doubtless I am not, but vulnerable to learning, yes.
Grandmother, I love you wherever you are, desirous
of growth, willing to fail, yearning Beauty."
The complex collection continues with another long, rhymed paean 'Mountain of the Dead', about how good pagans can take over the Sacred Flagstaff bioregion in Arizona and return the land free and peaceful as Mother Earth always wanted it. It is the solution and alternative for a better, ethical civilization that John Lennon prayed for in his song 'Revolution', and which the BIBLE FASCISTS continue to pray - for destruction of the Earth - in their churches.
It also contains the 3 Acts of a screenplay treatment 'The Buffalo Triangle', to restore the natural economy of the entire West.
Author's Notes: The 11 chapters here in this book were left out of the first book of the Myth, but they are now restored and available more easily on the amazing new e-book technologies.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE PAGAN is a 750+page 'encyclopedic appendix of 'Confessions of the Gods'; Formerly titled ' The Hymnodies of Thoth: Slayer of Argus, Healer of Death'.
Where To Buy: Amazon, under title 'Herodeia Decalogue, Poems of the Pagan Revolution', as well as 'The Creation Myth'; both in kindle e-book on Amazon; and stage readings in Odeon under title 'Confessions of the Gods'
