Important visionary Wiccan novel from Harvest Shadows|
The Song of an Emerald Dove
Author: Xanna Vinson
Publisher: Harvest Shadows
Category: Novel, Visionary Fiction Level: All
Gather the ladies! This fictionalized accounting of a true quest to aid the Goddess is a must-read for all women.
Dove contains a series of actual channeled messages and these are the catalyst for the work done by the women in the story. A quote on the cover tells us: “Draw together as many of your sisters as you can, for they will be needed for the grave work ahead. There is a big problem, so huge you cannot conceive of it until it shows itself full strength. None but my children can show the world the way to remove this horror. It will take longer than you have ever worked my will in the past, but it must be done.” That’s a scary concept, even in fiction.
The women in The Song of an Emerald Dove are fighting their own holy war as priestesses in their Wiccan religion — fighting in an army of eight on the side of their Goddess and world survival. The story of “The Song of an Emerald Dove” strikes close to home — if your home is anywhere on this planet! And if you’ve been listening...
Ms Vinson makes the point that these women are Witches and that the story follows them as they receive startling psychic messages. They soon feel that their Goddess is trying to tell them that they and all they love are in danger from an unfathomable growing horror, and they also feel that they have been chosen to take action to prevent it.
The story in Dove is about the women’s strivings and doubts, and their ultimate success. The dove is more than a symbol of peace, however, for it is also the women’s symbol for the mission that the Goddess has given them. Its image appears to them when they need a mentor. The story, Xanna explains, is very much about the message, more so than it is about the women, and the title had to convey that.

"With beautiful descriptions of Wicca ritual, Xanna Vinson skillfully weaves the actions of a coven into the web of the modern world. Age-old rites and communion with the ancient deities... attempt to save the world. Astral projection, meditation, and ancient ritual are the weapons of choice. A well-written, skillfully crafted story of courage; a novel to entertain; a volume to educate."
Raymond Buckland, author of The Comittee, Cardinal's Sin, and Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft

Xanna Vinson holds degrees from The College of New Jersey and Rider University. She resides in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. In the late 1990s she conducted the first-ever Pagan Memorial Day ritual at the Cathedral in the Pines, a national shrine to our nation’s war dead, in Rindge NH. The publication of The Song of an Emerald Dove corresponds – to the day – with her twenty-fifth anniversary as a High Priestess in her Wiccan tradition.
Author's Notes: NOTE BENE: Emerald Dove was written as a vehicle to convey a profound message to Wiccan women. In the 1980s, when the messages were first received, they were perplexing; and in the 90s and early 21st Century, when they were shared only among the original Priestesses of the Emerald Dove, their impact was becoming clearer and it became evident that we should begin to share our impressions and the messsages themselves. Now, when I speak to groups or conduct workshops, I find that none of this is "news" anymore. We are indeed all involved...
