 As a Pagan I was used to working with energy in ritual, but always interested in finding new ways to apply the energy of the natural world to my life. Gemstone feng shui is an alternative method of feng shui that utilizes crystals and gemstones exclusively. It can also be combined with a traditional practice. At its core, feng shui is a method of balancing the dynamic forces of the natural world. Gemstones and crystals are perfect for this work because they are formed by the earth’s powerful processes – the earth itself is dynamic and constantly changing. As a result, gemstones embody the energy of the elemental cycles of creation and destruction that are utilized in feng shui.
According to the ancient Chinese, all things in the universe are divided into five elements: water, fire, wood, metal and earth. These elements embody the archetypal energies that shape all things and symbolize the process of change. Interactions between the elements produce a continual cycle of growth and decay. Understanding how these energies interact provides the basis for invoking change and creating harmony.
In traditional feng shui, balancing elemental energy can be accomplished by using the element itself or a representation of it. In gemstone feng shui, gems that embody the elements are used. The size and number of stones, as well as their placement can emphasize and increase the presence of one element, as well as counteract and decrease the effects of another.
