DEDICANT: A Witch's Circle of Fire; A Course of Study in the Old Religion

Author: Thuri Calafia

Publisher: Llewellyn Worldwide

Category: Wicca & Witchcraft   Level: Beginner

The Circles books all follow the "real life" class formats I've been using for over two decades now, which are designed to follow the Wheel of the Year, instilling in the student, early on, a sense of deep connection to the earth in the region he lives in. The eclectic, Wheel of the Year format allows flexibility and freedom of choice to the student, giving him the option to go as deeply as he likes with his study, while still giving structure and cohesion to the course.

We are all so much smarter and more powerful than we give ourselves credit for! Many of us are self-taught and self-guided - I certainly was. So, I began, many years ago, creating this multi-level course of study based on what I feel I would have most benefitted from, coming up the Path. The classes I teach here in Portland are ever evolving and changing, just as the spiritual seeker is, and my goal is to continually create a challenging, user-friendly learning system which evolves and grows, too.

It is my goal to guide, support, and help the student lift him - or her - self up to his own highest aspirations; to shine a light so that she - or he - may see her own dazzling inner beauty and inherent worth. After all, reflecting starlight is what I do best!

REVIEWS:

By Linda Hoover "ArunaLynne" (Chillicothe, OH) -
This is a good beginner's book. I like the way the book has study questions, homework, pathworking exercises. This is a book I will use with my young people or any new seekers coming to our group. There are good illustrations and none of the fluff in too many 101 books. A great book for group study.

By S. Flint "KaTerra" (Olympia WA) -
I believe this if the first book that I have read on the subject that so clearly ties the tides of the year into learning the craft of the wise. I have been practicing for over 15 years and in that time have not come across a book that relates so many of the aspects of Wicca/Witchcraft in such a digestible way. I'm often asked about books by people who are just starting down this path or just want to learn more and I would definitely direct them to Thuri Calafia's book. Linking the lessons to the wheel of the year, is what I believe, allows a person to harmonize with the key components of the seasons. I also appreciate her documentation and referencing as it will help people continue their studies. Well done and I'm looking forward to the next books in the series.

By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) -
This first book in a complete course of Wiccan study tells of the Circles system, designed to harmonize with the Wheel of the Year with monthly lessons of themed stories, lore, spells and rituals. DEDICANT blends insights with exercises for reflection and introduces the Circles system, good for lone students or coven study alike. Any Wiccan student and any new age library catering to them will find this an excellent primer.

Author's Notes: I just finished INITIATE: A Witch's Circle of Water; A Course of Study in the Old Religion. Alas; I have been informed by my editor that it won't be out until Autumn 2012, as fall is when they release their Witchcraft titles. I am now beginning work on ADEPT: A Witch's Circle of Earth; A Course of Study in the Old Religion, as well as building my website and sketching out notes for a new novel.

Where To Buy: This book is available through Llewellyn, Amazon, and your local bookstore, from the small metaphysical one to the big conglomerates like Borders and Barnes & Noble.
