Shifting, Shamanism and Therianthropy: Magical Techniques For Your Therioside
Shifting, Shamanism and Therianthropy: Magical Techniques For Your Therioside

Author: Lupa [a Witchvox Sponsor]

Publisher: Self-published

Category: Shamanism Level: All
Yup, I'm at it again! I had so much fun making an ebook out of "The Lupa Liturgy" that I decided to play with the format more! I think it's a win-win situation: I get feedback on ideas, plus some more layout practice, and you get a free ebook!
"Shifting, Shamanism and Therianthropy: Magical Techniques For Your Therioside" is a work-in-progress; ever since I finished the final draft of my first professionally published book, "Fang and Fur, Blood and Bone: A Primal Guide to Animal Magix" (Immanion Press/Megalithica Books, 2006) , I've had thoughts about the interaction between my magical practice and my therianthropy percolating further in the back of my head.
For those who aren't familiar with the concept, a therianthrope is a person who believe that on some (generally) nonphysical level, s/he is a nonhuman animal. Some believe this is a result of reincarnation, that a previous life as an animal can have an effect on this life, or that one's soul is itself not human. Others believe it's primarily a psychological and/or neurobiological condition that science has yet to identify. Therianthropy differs from totemism in that while a totem is an external being, the therianthrope is the animal while also being physically human and living a perfectly functional human life.
While I don't present the ultimate guide to therianthropy, what I have written here are explanations of how magical practice can be used in conjunction with therianthropy. I explain why it's important to know the mechanics of how magic works, as well as the ideas behind the stereotypical "how to become a werewolf" rituals that have persisted throughout lycanthropy lore. And I spend a chapter exploring possible connections between totemism and some therianthropes.
This is basically a draft excerpt of my next solo book project, an as-of-yet-unnamed sequel to "Fang and Fur, Blood and Bone" in which I'll delve further into animal magic and totemism, adn which will be published by Immanion/Megalithica once it's ready. However, while the ideas here will be fleshed out further as the entire book itself coalesces, I'm offering you the chance to get a free sneak preview of some of what I've been working on lately. The ebook is a free-to-download .pdf, and if you want a print version it's offered at cost.
