For one, no more animals being sacrificed in the old Valentine School House she moved and remodeled to cover the vortex. She knew there was someone trying to uncover it, but was the man she saved looking for it or was she supposed to train him to guard another one for the Network?
Two, find out why, a case involving a friend’s death, and her ex-husband, has suddenly decided to rear its head again, putting her under surveillance. It’s not like she did anything other then work since her divorce, and her dating life was nothing to brag about because it was virtually nonexistent.
Three, figure out just what the hell is going on with her love life. She didn’t pay much attention to the men around her, but she wasn’t really looking either, the deceit was still too fresh. Deciding to get it out of her system and get on with her life, she tries one last time for love or whatever will work. That’s when she decided to try online dating, but it just allowed she greater access to more freaks and where she came across his profile.
Ryk Levi, tall, dark and half Hualapai. A 6'4 Indian with skills as numerous as his muscles. Ex-wrestler and Medical investigator assigned by more then one organization to observe Jade. Great, just what she needed to purge her system and then she was done.
But Dave Odin, the local county Sheriff wasn’t about to let that happen. Built like a bulldog and just as tenacious, his memory of her was something he could never shake. That’s why when he was recruited by the Network 15 years ago, he said yes in an effort to forget, but it wasn’t in the cards. Now, trained and assigned by the Network five years ago, he’s supposed to help Jade cover up any vortex dealings in order to support her efforts to protect it. Apparently not only does she need help guarding the vortex, but someone needs to guard her as well, mostly from herself.
Then to top off Jade's day, she gets shot! At least she has her own secret bodyguard now.
The town may be called Murphy's Bend, but Murphy's Law is more like it. Can't wait to see what the weekend holds.
