Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot. Over? Keepin' it Real in Esoteric Magic.

Author: Collen A'Miketh

Publisher: Megalithica Books

Category: Practical Magic Level: Intermediate
From the Back Cover
Whisky, Tango, Foxtrot. Over? Is a humorous down-to-earth book, written by a humorous down-to-earth magician. Collen A'Miketh draws on twenty plus years of magical practice to present standard magical techniques, such as controlled breathing and not-thinking, and show new ways to use them in everyday life. Ways that allow the magician to choose to act in their world, instead of react. Along the way he shares his experiences and provides the techniques he has used to help him practice magic every day. Any magician looking for new ways to improve their practice will find the ideas and exercises in this book useful and thought-provoking. Collen has been a practicing magician for over twenty years and is a tutor for the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. His interests include The Golden Dawn, Rosicrucianism, Cermonial Magic, Chaos Magic, Freemasonry and additional spellwork.
Outline and Synopsis
Chapter 1. "Boot Camp Basics" reviews standard magical techniques with an eye to getting the reader familiar with how they can be re-applied as an every day skill.
Chapter 2. "Tower Mage and Traveling Mage" helps connect the dots presented in the previous chapter and provides ways to apply the basics. These examples bridge the gap between practicing magic in the isolation of a ritual chamber and practicing magic all the time, everyday.
Chapter 3. "It’s Just a Theory" presents a magical theory that fits with the concepts presented so far. It helps the magician put their practice into some sort of governing framework and provides a bit of order to a subject that can be… well, quite disorderly.
Chapter 4. "Ruh-Roh, Raggy" addresses areas many texts gloss over or ignore… Namely that there are risks to the magical lifestyle and that steps can (and should) be taken to address those risks. Because I hate to be a wet blanket, I also identify a handful of rewards.
Chapter 5. "Back To Mystery School" takes a look at the advantages, and disadvantages, of working in a group setting. It considers the pros and cons of working with a magical or non-magical group. It also presents a guided meditation to help you get a feel for the initiation cycle a mystery school might use to impart gnosis.
Chapter 6. "Archetype Schmarkytype" takes a look at how the average magician misses the point when it comes to archetypes. It also takes a look at Gandalf, Merlin, and the all around wizard archetype.
Chapter 7. "Principia Pokera" investigates and examines the application of Will in the game of poker. After all, when you want to win money and some other schmoe wants you to lose money, the situation is ideal for learning about how Wills interact.
Chapter 8. A'Miketh's Memoir is a (mercifully) short list of my magical war stories.
Chapter 9. "The Obligatory Grimoire" provides spells and other ideas for taking the material presented and applying it. Highlights in this chapter include using the eight seasonal festivals as goal setting tools, the “Pentacle of Perception” to help implement magical thinking in our lives, and People Sigil magic, which takes Chaos Sigil magic and utilizes people instead of sigils to realize results.
Review by Philip Carr-Gomm author of “The Book of English Magic.”
"I found Collen's book immensely rich, brimming with ideas and techniques, and a pleasure to read. I enjoyed his sense of humour and his willingness to share in his mistakes as well as his successes, and can see this book proving an excellent aide for the practising magician."
