The Creation Myth {GEODESY of the Colorado Plateau}

Author: David Seals

Publisher: Northern Arizona Authors Association

Category: Poetry Level: Advanced
"Arizona's own pagan 'Paradise Lost'." --- ASU English professor John Martinson
"My friend David Seals has done it again, with another shocking, unique rampage across the postmodernist spiritual landscapes and minefields that he traversed so skillfully with his wonderful 'Powwow Highway', both book and film, and especially 'Sweet Medicine'. I love 'The Creation Myth'!" -- Leslie Marmon Silko Native American author of 'Storyteller' and 'Almanac of the Dead'
"Very disturbing, but in a good way, revision of Judeo-Christian mythology, with an erudite, eloquent narrative sweeping from ancient Egypt to modern Arizona. The audience at UA's Poetry Center, in Tucson, was stunned and thrilled at the same time by the dramatic reading of Mr. Seals, who obviously knows his stuff." -- University of Arizona Poetry Center Director Betsy Cholmsley
THE CREATION MYTH, in 128 pages of classical blank verse not seen since 'The Prelude' of Wordsworth, sweeps dramatically from the goat-Dionysos founding 'Ur-christianity' in the days of Herod the Great at Caesarea Phillippi, to the tragic love story of Isis and Osiris in predynastic Egypt, and then back to the gods and goddesses of the Grand Canyon and Colorado River Basin comparing the Nile with the deserts of the American southwest. And through it all mankind is struggling to grasp his understanding of "who is God?" and "what is Death?"
It is the 1st volume of the massive 'Flagstaff Quartet', about the reclamation of the Sacred Precinct of Flagstaff's Peaks, from the destruction of miners, cowboys, and loggers for 150 years, since Seals's ancestors from French Canada were fur-trappers with Antoine Leroux in the 1830s, and they established a Temple at the Leroux Springs Cemetery for family burials then. Through many ceremonies for a century, they have begun the purification of the Peaks through destruction of the false american economy, US Forest Service grazing for cattle, tourism, and the wastewater pipeline for artifical snowmaking at the nearby Snowbowl ski area. His family has been working with the local Cohonina natives (Havasupai Indians) , who were the prehistoric caretakers of the Holy Mountain, for 150 years, and The Flagstaff Quartet chronicles much of that ongoing spiritual effort, which necessarily, fatefully, involves articulation and conjuration powers of cleansing of the deep ecology of the Inner Underworld.
"People around here have never respected the Spirits and Gods of the sacred Peaks. Now they have to be run out."
Author's Notes: David Seals is a Sorceror, 63 years old; he invokes tornadoes and blizzards to purify the destruction people have wrought on the Sacred Flagstaff Peaks; and the Author of a dozen published book, plays, anthologies, and films, including the 1989 underground pagan classic 'Powwow Highway' produced by his friend George Harrison.
Where To Buy: 'GEODESY: The Creation Myth of the Colorado Plateau'. A supplementary novel titled 'The Hymnodies of Thoth: Slayer of Argus', is an encyclopedic appendix of 750 pages, available for limited sale from the author in september.
