A Visual Tool for Grown-up Magic|
The Spellcasting Picture Book: Visual Tools for Grown-up Magic 2nd edition
Author: Diana Rajchel
Publisher: Diana Rajchel
Category: Mind/Body/Spirit Level: Beginner
The Spellcasting Picture Book: Visual Tools for Grown-up Magic celebrates the sensibilities of occult mini manuals with the 21st century handmade aesthetic. This brightly colored collection offers 52 pages of spells, poems, and magical tips. Decidedly primitive in visual style, the magic within carries a pragmatic flavor even a caveman can appreciate. Whether banishing ghosts by asking them to do dishes, or focusing on a rainbow-hued stick-figure to enhance the grounding process, the Spellcasting Picture book contains within the sense of hilarity and truth familiar to long-time magic workers.
"The colors are rich and fluid, the spells themselves rhymes, often accompanied by gestures (pictures of Diana’s hands are included) . This is crude by most people’s standard’s but they do not lack power for all of that. If you want complicated, look elsewhere. If you want polished, it ain’t here. If, on the other hand, you want to read what a REAL witch has in her Book of Shadows (well, kind of: my pages aren’t nearly so colorful, but I’m a frustrated and frustrating artist) then get this one." - Lisa McSherry, editor of Facing North and author of Magickal Connections
"I sometimes think that a prerequisite for being interested in modern paganism is the complete inability to write good poetry. I have read some things and thought, we have a centuries-long tradition of fine devotional verse and here is this author wibbling on about lovely lovely trees or whatever in a line which does not scan and ends with a rhyme worthy of McGonagall, how is this honouring the Goddess because I imagine she is cringing and opening a bottle of Merlot (on the astral plane) just like I am. Anyway I only say this to you because Diana's spell book is NOT LIKE THAT, it is very different, I think it is excellent and punchy and with spells which feel like they have power. " - Susie, of Useless Beauty Blog
