Calling the dead!
Moon Song

Author: Elen Sentier

Publisher: Lulu

Category: teaching story: fantasy-romance Level: All
Moon Song is a love and ghost story.
Journalist and singer, Isoldé Labeale, flees a London that, after 9/11, is becoming as oppressive as the Belfast of the Troubles where she grew up. She goes to the West Country to work with an old lover and meets the internationally famous concert organist, Mark King, who she has always admired. They fall in love. Isoldé goes to live with him at his Cornish home, Caergollo, and discovers that Mark is the adopted brother of her hero, the late Celtic folk singer Tristan Talorc, who committed suicide rather than live with AIDs.
Isoldé meets the Woodfolk of Nectan’s Kieve who tell her Tristan died too soon, without finishing his last song. The Woodfolk need the song and ask Isoldé to find it. The search brings conflict between her and Mark … but she has to find it, and Mark has to help.
Author's Notes: The story is about death ... and about love. Is suicide ever appropriate? Can it ever be wrong? Is it possible to love two people at once? In Moon Song, Isoldé delves into these questions with the aid of the Faer folk and comes up with some surprising answers.
I write stories, show the lore through stories, because people tell me they learn and remember better in a tale where they can relate to the characters, see themselves. Our ancestors taught the lore this way ... I follow their example with new-old stories set in today.
