A promising career in the music industry was on the horizon for up-and-coming heavy metal band, Bloodtones. Even for their non-human members, this is the opportunity of a lifetime!
Yes, life was good… until it took a hellish turn.
Literally!
After a bizarre encounter, Bloodtones' lead-singer Bekka finds herself sharing her body with a slew of terrified beings and in mortal danger from wraithlike forces capable of superhuman feats. When fans can be otherworldly assassins and every mood-swing can end in an exploding amp, Bloodtones' rock-solid future is rapidly crumbling before their very eyes. What hope do the five have against a force that neither their magic or paranormal members can begin to explain?
With no choice but to fight, Bekka and her band-mates soon find themselves struggling for not only their music…
… but their very lives.
(5.0 out of 5 stars) It Rocked!!!! March 28, 2012 By The Mystical World of Book Reviews: Loved this awesome read! It has twists that only Nathan Squiers could bring to the table. This is the first book I have read that revolves around the paranormal and heavy metal-double win for me. The Bloodtones are far from your normal heavy metal band and find themselves with more issues than trying to score their next gig. I loved each one of the five band members, they are each unique and bring their own twist to the story and the band. Not only do they struggle with trying to become famous, they have the weight of keeping the band together and alive. Danger seems to lurk around their every move and seems to be far from their number on fan. This book definitely rocks the paranormal guidelines, which made it much more interesting than the same ole paranormal stuff out there. I recommend this book for every paranormal lover. Be warned: you will want to throw your point and pinky fingers in the air and bang your head!
(5.0 out of 5) stars Best Quote in book"Columbian Necktie", February 11, 2012 By Brenda: Nathan [Squiers] is an amazingly wired and talented writer. Very impressed with the characters, I liked how they all held my interest and seemed real and likable. That to me is the most important part about a book, keeping your characters real and interesting. I loved watching Bekka and Brian's relationship evolve. You could feel the closeness yourself, and that's good writing!! Although they went through a lot to get to point of falling in love. The friends they keep company with adds even more to plot.....don't want to give away any spoilers here :) But I have to say Will cracks me up with some of the things he says, like:"I swear! If you down all my booze I'm gonna murder you!You hear me? Columbian-F&**ing-necktie!" ~ And if you want to know what that is you have to read the book hahaha. :) This book is a must read!! If you love paranormal books, then this is for you! Go get it! You will glad you did
(5.0 out of 5 stars) Supernatural beings, blood, and metal music... Who could ask for more?, January 27, 2012 By Amanda R. Browning "Amanda" (Indiana) I want to start by saying how much I loved this book! I am a fan of metal music and mythology, and Death Metal has both in spades! The characters are well developed and their reactions both make sense and keep with the characters' personalities. Squiers has a wonderful voice and I was hooked from the first chapter. Death Metal has a fresh take on mythology, all of which is explained, not leaving the reader with distracting questions. There is action throughout the book and no dull moments in between. I was very easily drawn into this novel. With compelling characters and a unique conflict, the Bloodtones have a lot that they must deal with and overcome, providing a captivating story. My favorite character was Bekka, and I loved her evolving relationship with Brian. The closeness of the band in general was very real. During rough times, they all found out how much they meant to one another and worked together to do what needed to be done. The dialogue flowed easily and was entertaining as well as giving insight to each character's mind. A favorite part of mine was the song lyrics that were included. I felt like I could hear the sound of the band and see little Bekka onstage screaming her heart out. I could continue raving about this awesome book, but it would be hard without giving spoilers. I will say, if you enjoy paranormal fiction, you will enjoy this book. With all the paranormal books flooding the market, it was a refreshing change to see the same creatures retold in a new way. I very much enjoyed this book and will be avidly waiting for future work from Nathan Squiers!
Author's Notes: The first book in the Death Metal series, focusing on the supernatural struggles of an up-and-coming heavy metal band, Bloodtones, that, despite being composed of supernatural beings, wants nothing more than to play music and entertain.
Book #1, "Curtain Call", deals with the members of Bloodtones trying to keep their career (and their lives) while coping with the "demonic" possession of their lead singer, Bekka.
