The Gray Witch's Grimoire |
Author: Amythyst Raine
Publisher: Moon Books/John Hunt Publishing
Category: witchcraft Level: All
With "The Gray Witch's Grimoire" you can empower yourself through ancient mysteries, secret rites, and magickal spells that leave the world of the mundane behind and nurture the wise-woman in us all.
What makes this book unique? The world of the gray witch has been largely avoided, misrepresented, or glossed over with various books geared gingerly towards ‘protection magic’. These books, though informative and well written as they may be, have totally missed the spirit of the gray witch – who she really is, how she relates to the world of shadow and light, and exactly what she’s willing to do to stand her ground. In our society ‘dark’ is automatically viewed as ‘evil’; and ‘light’ is automatically viewed as ‘good’. We’re expected to live completely within one realm and to totally avoid the other. This creates imbalance and is a great injustice to the true spirit of the ancient wise woman. This book puts matters to right and gives the public a view of just what the gray witch is – and what she isn’t. The gray witch does not live in a world of chaos or unbridled black magic. She has a code of honor, a sense of propriety, and a relevance in today’s society.
[The following is an excerpt from an Author Interview in The Spellery]
The Gray Witch's Grimoire...this is my magick; it's my own Book of Shadows; it's my own stance and belief system; it's my own path. It's my spiritual practices in a nut-shell. I've gotten the biggest kick out of a couple of criticisms. One was that the work was short. Well, it is; it's not a big thick endless book. It's the size it is because I said all I needed to say on the topic in question. It's all the information you need to practice witchcraft. It's the only concise book I've ever seen that cuts to the chase and lays everything out on the line: Here's what you need to practice; here's how it's done; here's why it's done this way. What more is there to say? Another criticism is that it didn't have correspondences that this reader assumed you'd find in a book about gray witchcraft; she expected more correspondences uniquely connected to the gray path. Well, the gray path isn’t any different than the white path, the middle-of-the-road path, or even the black path. It's all in how you use it. It's all “in the heart of the witch”, as the famous line from the movie The Craft goes. I love the people who “get it”. They are kindred spirits.
