The Witch's Journey: Cutting the Cords of Christian Dogma

Author: Elaanie S [a Witchvox Sponsor]

Publisher: Createspace/The Witch's Weeds, LLC

Category: Religion & Spirituality, Wicca, Witchcra   Level: All

Witchcraft is currently estimated to be the fastest growing religion in America yet many of its adherents remain in hiding for fear of loss of relationships, missed career opportunities and damaged personal credibility. Their fears are not unfounded. Approximately 82% of Americans report that they practice some form of Christianity which, as a tenet of its theology, compels the conversion of all non-Christians and demonizes those who follow a pagan path. Even those who are not devout embrace a type of social ethic which reflects an attitude of "if you are a good person, you are Christian." As a result, Pagan-friendly resources are few and often leave the neophyte floundering in isolation and fear in an overwhelmingly Christianized and discriminatory society.

Elaanie invites the reader to consider the commonalities between her experiences and their own. Guiding them through a series of intellectual exercises, the reader naturally awakens to a better understanding of the obstacles which stand between themselves and a path of spiritual freedom. The Witch's Journey reviews the cultural influences of traditional religion and how the inaccuracies and deceptions of those systems permeate virtually ever facet of life and psychologically bind their followers. Throughout the process, the reader is challenged to open their mind and spirit through the work of questioning, introspection, journaling and, finally, ritual which serves to metaphorically and literally “cut the cords” which bind them to the indoctrination of Christian dogma. Elaanie S presents the reader with the logical and rational alternative to the well-worn path created by sheep blindly following Evangelical Christianity- the spiritual freedom to pursue a deeper, more empowered relationship with the Divine regardless of the path they choose.

The Witch's Journey assures the fledgling Witch or seasoned practitioner that they are not alone in their stories, their frustrations or their struggles. It demonstrates that even in a culture where social liberalism has still not acknowledged the very real and meaningful role of the Witch, post-Christian guilt and fear is common and resolvable.

Author's Notes: A Witch, healer, teacher and community leader, the focus of Elaanie's work has been the founding and development of Hecate's Cauldron of Mississippi, a Witch's Circle which provides support and resources to the Witch and Pagan community through education, Sabbat celebration, healing work, and the ongoing empowerment of area pagans. She is a High Priestess and ordained minister in the Temple Tradition, and serves the Sagittarius ministry of the Temple of Witchcraft in the capacity of teacher and mentor.

Elaanie is a mother of five, a Registered Nurse and has an interest in the earth's remedies. She works with herbal solutions to health concerns, and blends natural teas from the earth's gifts. She is the owner of The Witch's Weeds Herbal Teas & Potions (www.thewitchsweeds.com) . Elaanie currently resides in Jackson, Mississippi with her husband, Randy, and her English Mastiff, Lexie.
