The First Major Book since A Witches' Bible
Progressive Witchcraft

Author: Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone [a Witchvox Sponsor]

Publisher: New Page Books

Category: Wicca/Witchcraft Level: All
Progressive Witchcraft is the most radical work to date by Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone, arguably the world’s leading experts on the subject of Modern Witchcraft and the neo-pagan movement. It is nothing less than their detailed analysis of the way witchcraft has evolved into the worldwide religion that it is today…and their vision of its future.
Progressive Witchcraft does not create or endorse a specific witchcraft tradition, but identifies a system that is at the root of all of the existing paths within Witchcraft. Farrar and Bone show that Wicca is a modern, non-dogmatic dynamic tradition, still in a state of evolution, a Priesthood based on connection with the Divine and service to humanity.
This book details how many magical practises of Witchcraft actually work, giving both practical exercises and advice. Janet and Gavin explain:
* What Progressive Witchcraft is, including its tenets. * Why Witchcraft is connected to the ancient Mysteries of our forefathers, and how elements can be found both in Shamanism and Ritual Magic. * Why Witchcraft is a Priesthood. * Why ‘Sorcery’ is the traditional magical practise of witchcraft and how all ritual relates to the body’s energy system (auras and chakras). * What a Spiritual Cosmology is and how it can be used to access the Mysteries by travelling between the worlds. * What the different spiritual and astral Guides and Guardians are and how to find them.
And they give their own unique, modern perspective on:
* How to connect with the Gods and Goddesses of our ancestors. * How Drawing Down the Moon works, and how to use other forms of deity assumption in ritual. * How to create and use an Astral Temple. * The many different ways a coven can function successfully, including the skills a good coven leader needs. * How to successfully find and approach a coven or Wiccan teacher for training. * How to train as a Witch-including a ritual training book that teaches how ritual energy works.
Progressive Witchcraft is a book for anyone interested in Wicca, from seekers just beginning on the path of the old ways to those thirsting for more knowledge about its inner practices. It will also be an invaluable resource for anyone running (or planning to run) training groups.
Author's Notes: Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone are considered the world’s leading experts on the subject of Modern Witchcraft and the neo-pagan movement. They regularly present lectures and workshops throughout the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.
Janet Farrar became involved in Wicca when a friend started visiting the coven of Alex and Maxine Sanders. Janet, from a Christian background, went along to dissuade her friend from becoming involved, but was so impressed by Wicca’s moral structure she wound up joining the Sanders’ Coven.
Janet first met Stewart when he was asked to script and narrate A Witch Is Born. After receiving their Third Degrees from the Sanders, they left Alex and Maxine to form their own coven and develop their own ritual structure and training methods. They married in 1972 and moved to the Republic of Ireland in 1976.
Janet and Stewart wrote more than a dozen books on the Craft, including The Witches’ Bible, Eight Sabbats For Witches’, The Witches’ Way, The Witches’ Goddess, The Witches’ God, and Spells and How They Work.
Their books have become some of the most influential in Witchcraft and are primary training materials for Wiccan covens throughout the world.
Since her initial introduction to the Alexandrian Craft, Janet has been developing her own unique brand of Witchcraft. She has honorary initiations into several other traditions, including traditional Italian Strega. In 1999 she became ordained as Third-level Clergy with the Aquarian Tabernacle Church, based in the state of Washington.
Janet strongly believes in a Wicca that is both progressive and dynamic, while remaining a clergy of those dedicated to serving the God and Goddess.
Born in Portsmouth, England, Gavin Bone was originally initiated into Seax-Wicca in 1986. He trained as a Registered Nurse and is a practicing Spiritual Healer and a trained Reflexologist.
During the 1980’s, he studied Northern European shamanism, with particular focus on the Runes. He incorporated much of what he learned into his Wiccan practices, strongly believing that true European witchcraft has it’s origins in ancestral worship and magical practices rather than the ritual magic of the Middle Ages.
He met Janet and Stewart Farrar in 1989 at the Pagan Link conference in Leicester and moved to Ireland in 1992 after accompanying them on a tour of the United States. After his move to Ireland, he set up the Pagan Information Network, a contact network for pagans in the Republic and the North of Ireland.
Like Janet, he is an honorary member of the Strega tradition, and ordained Third-level Clergy with the Aquarian Tabernacle Church.
Stewart Farrar passed away on February 7th, 2000, following a series of illnesses.
