A novel of Shamanism and Goddess Spirituality set in the Bronze Age world of Minoan Crete
Stories They Told me

Author: Theresa Dintino

Publisher: iUniverse

Category: fiction Level: All
Stories They Told Me is a novel of shamanism and Goddess Spirituality set in the Bronze Age world of Minoan Crete. It is a threefold tale exploring violence against women from the perspectives of characters who live in a world where such violence is unknown.
Early in the novel Aureillia and Danelle travel to Malta. There, in an underground temple, they witness a shared vision of Danelle murdering Aureillia in a future life. This knowing sends them onto individual journeys of discovery.
Danelle, artist and oracle, flees to Libya where he meets the local Shaman Rodin. Rodin teaches him to journey into the otherworld. Together they examine the heart breaking questions of his soul.
Aureillia, Priestess of the Bird, returns to Crete to continue the work of creating her emerging temple and caring for their daughter, Lilith. Though she tries to avoid it she comes to realize that she must examine her own response to the experience of such violence. Can she change this future that appears to loom inevitable?
Throughout the book there is a third voice telling stories, all different stories with different narrators. It is unclear to the reader until the end of the book who is speaking, but Lilith is listening, being filled up by story.
Stories They told Me is a book about story: the stories we tell and are told, the stories we believe, therefore live by, and the knowing that emerges at the end of the book—that always a story can change…
“Stories They Told Me is a worthy companion to Ode To Minoa. Drawing from deep wells of wisdom, Dintino’s visionary fiction provides profound insight for personal and cultural healing.” —Mara Lynn Keller, Ph.D., Director of Women’s Spirituality, California Institute of Integral Studies
Author's Notes: Theresa C. Dintino, feisty feminist and Goddess devotee, is the author of Ode to Minoa, the novel of the spiritual odyssey of a snake priestess in Bronze Age Crete. She is currently at work on a novel about an Italian Strega who immigrates to the United States at the turn of the last century and encounters the birth of the western medical establishment. She lives and writes in Sebastopol California where she prays daily for a revolution!
