A Primer for Authors who would like to learn more about Wicca

What is Wicca? A Guide to Witchcraft for Writers

"What is Wicca? A Guide to Witchcraft for Writers" is a primer designed for the fiction author who wants to target millions of Wiccan readers around the world.
It is a sad truth that many writers who write books about witchcraft and wizardry alienate the readers who are most likely read and recommend their books. This short book is designed to provide a practical reference to today's Wiccans for writers, providing information and solutions for some of the more common mistakes made when writing about this fast growing and interesting religion.

Tabitha Bradley's articles are regularly published in Circle Magazine, and she performs hand fastings and other rituals for practicing witches. She has written several books, including Ravished, Enticed, Diranda Tales from the Fifth Quadrant, Arcadia, and the soon to be released Daughter of the Shadows.

What is Wicca -
A Guide to Witchcraft for Writers

If you read no other book this year, What Is Wicca A Guide to Witchcraft for Writers is one you must not miss. While offered as an excellent guide to Wicca and Witchcraft for writers, author Tabitha Bradley offers any reader one of the best handbooks on the subject this reviewer has seen.

Vastly different from many how to books, Ms. Bradley uses her talent as a consummate story teller in a wonderful combination of facts and personal experience to explain the many facets of the Craft in general and Wicca in specifics. She offers snap shots of how many readers see Witches, primarily as presented by Hollywood and other fictional accounts by short excerpts of what the reader may read in many books. Her personality comes through as warm and friendly by explaining in a conversational manner how what is often seen in books, television and movies is incorrect. She then presents in easy to understand and accurate terms how the real ceremonies are carried out and the beliefs lived out. While an extremely useful text, What Is Wicca is also a wonderful read.

Among the chapters Ms. Bradley offers explanations on the most painful time for Witches the Burning Times and explains why many of us say never again along with a concise history of not only Wicca but also the craft in general. Interspersed with the history presented, this marvelous author also provides references to other helpful books and links to internet sites that will help the reader on their personal journey to understand and/or write their own accurate book. The book includes not only an explanation of beliefs and rituals, there are also a couple of simple spells presented along with proper admonitions of why certain acts are inappropriate to perform.

In another section Ms. Bradley explains the difference between a Witch and a Witch who practices Wicca, the so-called Wicked Witch and a sampling of the different paths a Witch may follow. This marvelous author also takes on various misconceptions about witches, including the term Warlock and how it is NOT an accurate term for a male witch. The Glossary provided in the book is a comprehensive and well written guide to the various aspects of the Craft and Wicca as well as some excellent resources. The combination of the text of What is Wicca along with glossary offers paranormal writers excellent guide points to write a truly accurate story about Witches.

As a practicing Witch the reviewer was intrigued with the idea of a book that would give guidance to writers on how to write about Wicca and Witchcrafts. The final product went far beyond my expectations with not only the amount of information presented, but Ms. Bradleys writing style. One truly comes away from the book not only feeling that something of value has been shared and learned, but that they have had a conversation with an extremely astute woman who has important information to share.

While Ms. Bradley puts forth this book is one for authors who wish to write about Witchcraft and Wicca to read, this reviewer would go even further to say that reviewers and all readers of fiction should have this book on their bookshelf as a wonderful reference. There is no longer any reason why an author of the paranormal would be less than accurate. Kudos to Ms. Bradley for tackling a book that should have been written long ago and thanks for presenting the material in such a fantastic manner.
