Mid-Atlantic Pagan Alliance’s Wicked Awesome Lugh Beach Party

by Finding Your Bliss

Wow, what a Great Luau! Mid-Atlantic Pagan Alliance’s Wicked Awesome Lugh Beach Party really lived up to its name. This was the best beach party I’ve ever been to.

Held on Saturday, July 23, 2005, the Mid-Atlantic Pagan Alliance’s Wicked Awesome Lugh Beach Party was one of the most fun events I’ve attended in a long time. We all trekked down the shore to Island Beach State Park down at the end of Seaside Park. The drive was long and the traffic thick but the journey was well worth it.

Pagans traveled from all over New Jersey to be part of this Fun in the Sun Event. There were nearly a hundred people who participated in this shindig. Along with MPA folks, there were beach lovers from several local Pagan groups including Hands of Change, Coven of the Wooden Spoon and Grove of the Other Gods. Attendance was not limited to these groups; we had lots more Pagans, solitary and otherwise, from all around.

Afternoon at the Jersey shore is so relaxing, and what a great group of people. It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to spend time with friends at the beach. It’s especially nice to see friends that we don’t get to see as often. Most of these folks we only get to see at Beltane, so this was a real treat.

There was lots of fun and entertainment. We watched the kids playing in the sand and at the shoreline, while Mace enchanted us with music and song in his folk Pagan style. We talked, laughed and got caught up with friends as we enjoyed the cool sea breeze.

The ocean was warm and wavy. We had lots of fun jumping over and diving under the big walls of white froth. Then we came back to the beach for a fabulous beach BBQ that couldn’t be beat. With George as Grill Master Supreme, the food was just great.

As the sun began to fall, we watched the dolphins frolicking in the waves. We had fun ‘fishing.’ One of the guys caught a small shark for his dinner. I like the idea of a man eating shark.

We watched the sky change colors as the sun set over the dunes. When the sun disappeared for the day, Marc started the bonfire. Soon we were dancing and drumming in true Pagan style. Woo Hoo! Wicked Awesome! It’s good to be Pagan!

There’s nothing like ritual on the beach. Our lady moon peered over the horizon around 10:30 pm just in time for our late night rite. MPA’s co-founders and High Priestess and High Priest, Robin and Marc, led our circle in the sand, which ended with everybody hugging. Yeah !

MPA's First Annual Wicked Awesome Lugh Beach Party was the Best Beach Party ever. An event as good as this is destined for greatness. I expect it will become a very popular annual event. It will be a real challenge, next year, to top this outrageously excellent event, but we can certainly give it a try. Way to go MPA ! You Rock ! Thanks for a Great Party !
