A “PAGAN FEDERATION” fundada em 1971 com sede em Inglaterra, é mais antiga organização Pagã europeia, e dedica-se à defesa do Paganismo representando os seus Associados, defendendo o livre exercício do Paganismo e conservação de locais de culto, assegurando assim, a liberdade de religião e de culto, consagrada na Carta Universal dos Direitos dos Homens (Art. 18) .
Desde 1997 que coordenamos a Pagan Federation em Portugal, com autonomia para tratar de todos os assuntos relacionados com o Paganismo de acordo com os nossos critérios e princípios, credenciados pela PFInternacional.

DECLARAÇÃO
Lisboa, 22 Agosto 2005
Face ao discurso supra mencionado e com vista a esclarecer quais os princípios do NeoPaganismo, com vista a evitar aproveitamentos políticos e/ou religiosos, cumpre-nos dizer o seguinte:
O Paganismo é depositário e guardião das antigas religiões politeístas. Ao longo dos séculos soubemos viver e morrer comungando com a sacralidade da natureza, a religião pagã, que sendo a religião pré-cristã europeia, tem mais de 20 000 anos. Seguimos uma espiritualidade natural, e adoramos os Deuses Antigos – Dos valores pagãos ancestrais e das suas práticas religiosas e da forma como essas práticas evoluíram até ao presente, surge a rica diversidade de tradições que formam o corpo do actual paganismo, comummente denominado – NeoPaganismo.
Desde já salientamos que não pretendemos debater, e muito menos combater a religião católica, ou outras, porque os nossos princípios são o da tolerância e do respeito mútuo; o que pretendemos é mostrar que existem outras religiões como o Paganismo, cuja existência remonta ao nascimento da civilização humana, e em nada tem a ver com movimentos políticos contemporâneos.
Não promovemos nenhuma manifestação religiosa ou contra-religiosa, tendo como finalidade única, apenas a transmissão de conhecimento, o que, por condicionalismos histórico-culturais só no passado mais recente é que é estudado e defendido.
Não profetizamos nem procuramos convertidos, nem aceitamos proselitismos; respeitamos todas as religiões, e assim sendo, e porque a liberdade de expressão e de religião é um direito consagrado na Constituição Portuguesa, e também o é internacionalmente, existimos para relembrar toda a cultura pré-cristã, pelo que também esperamos das outras crenças, e da sociedade em geral, a mesma tolerância e respeitabilidade.
Somos independentes de Estados, das formações partidárias e das demais instituições religiosas, e de quaisquer movimentos políticos alheios ao espírito pagão universal.

STATEMENT
Lisbon, the 22nd August 2005
Considering the given speech and in order to clarify the principles of Neo-Paganism so that no one could take advantage of this speech with political and/or religious purposes, we state thus that:
Paganism is the depositary and guardian of the ancient polytheist religions. Throughout the centuries we knew how to live and die according to nature’s rhythm and inner voice. The pagan faith was a pre-christian religion and is approximately 20 000 years old.
We follow a natural spirituality and we worship the Old Gods. The old pagan values, the religious practice of them and the way those evolved until the present day caused the emerging of a rich diversity of traditions that form the very body of paganism these days, called Neo-Paganism.
We do not look for any debate or conflict regarding the catholic religion or other faiths, because our main principles are based on tolerance and mutual respect for each other’s options; we just need some space to show there are other religions (such as Paganism itself) which existence started with the birth of human life and have no relation whatsoever with contemporary political aims.
We do not promote any religious or contra-religious manifestation, since we have as a target the protection of our legacy of knowledge. This legacy is ours for study and protection not before the occurrence of historical and cultural obstacles only surmounted by the dawn of a very recent past.
We do not seek prophets’ words or proselyte converts, nor do we accept dogmatic views, even of paganism as a religion or philosophy. We respect all and each one of the religious manifestations and the right to profess one’s religion of the heart. International and national Portuguese constitutional laws protect this right and that’s why we exist to remember all pre-christian culture. We hope that other faiths and society in general show the same respect and kind tolerance regarding our own ways.
We are fully independent from State, parties and other religious institutions’ ideals. We are also apart from any political forces strangers to the pagan spiritual path.
