Magicfolk [A Witchvox Sponsor]

Category: Musicians

Website Profile: Magicfolk is a leading UK esoteric psych-folk band, producing its own blend of rock, folk, celtic and prog-rock with rich vocal harmonies and an assortment of instruments, in songs with mythological, mystic and pagan leanings.
“Like the bright sun burning through the morning fog, Magicfolk come bearing tradition, vision, passion and mysticism” (Exposé Magazine)
Their material touches upon a whole range of esoteric inspirations, including those found in Egyptian, Greek, Celtic, Hermetic, Shamanic, Wiccan, Pagan and other traditions.
They've played at places in the UK such as the Beltane Bash in London, the 3 Wishes Faery Festival Cornwall, Druid Camp, and are looking forward to the Eastbourne Lammas Festival this year (2009) and the Pagan Federation Summer Camp in 2010 in North Wales.
They’ve also played at other numerous festivals and venues including The Met in Manchester, Priddy Folk Festival in Somerset, and Wymondham Music Festival and Reedham Ferry Folk Festival in Norfolk.
“Genuinely something new for fans of esoteric folk, their lyrics sing of folklore and magic, evoking the mystery within the music" (Woven Wheat Whispers)
The music is grounded in acoustic instrumentation and layered vocals, which then often develop into raucous rock, jazz and psychedelic improvisations. They also have gentle songs which “take you to other more restful places”.
“Prog rock, celtic tunes and tight vocal harmony, spiked with prickly electric guitar. If you like Fairport Convention, Jethro Tull and Jefferson Airplane, you won’t be disappointed.” (Pagan Dawn Magazine)
In 2007 they launched their debut album which is available direct from their website, CD Baby, or as a download from iTunes. They've now started work on a second album with view to release autumn 2009.
"A raft of magical spells... a silver blade wrapped in lace" (Folkwords)
If you want to hear more, check out their WVox Bardic Circle listings, or there are lots of good length taster soundclips on their website (on the ‘Audio’ page) and on their Myspace site.
“Entirely convincing… memorable and beautifully arranged” (Radio Centraal Belgium)
