Website Profile: The Mythic Images Collection
The Mythic Images Collection grew out of a lifetime passion for mythology and ancient history that is both spiritual and academic. Oberon and Morning Glory Zell have a large collection of votive Goddess statues gathered from all over the world and throughout history. As Morning Glory traveled and lectured with these figurines, Oberon began sculpting amazingly accurate museum replicas—such as the “Venus” of Willendorf, the Lady of Pazardzik, and the Cretan Snake Goddess—to fill gaps in the growing collection. People attending the lectures kept trying to purchase these lovely statues, and so Oberon and Morning Glory learned to reproduce their images for sale.
Eventually they branched out from exact reproductions of museum artifacts into more creative artistic interpretations such as Oberon’s sensual Aphrodite, and his Diana, inspired by the “Pastoral” scene in Disney’s “Fantasia.” Morning Glory added her own powerful image of Hecate. Of all these Goddesses, however, Oberon’s masterpiece is The Millennial Gaia—his definitive rendition of Mother Earth with all the lifeforms that comprise Her great Being.
Soon, devoted customers began demanding male consorts for all these Goddesses, and so Oberon created a wonderful series of Gods, beginning with Cernunnos from the Gündestrup Cauldron, and later, more innovative interpretations, such as Pan, Eros, and Odin the Wanderer.
Along with free-standing altar figurines, Oberon and other Mythic Images artists have created a line of circular wall plaques to adorn temple spaces. The most popular of these are the set of five Elementals: Air (Bird Goddess) , Fire (Sun God) , Water (Sea Goddess) , Earth (Green Man) , and Spirit (Psyche) .
Later, The Mythic Images Collection introduced a new series of hand-painted figurines by Oberon. Titled “Flights of Fantasy, ” these are beautiful matched sets of two each of mythological creatures, on matching wood bases with brass plaques. The first in this collection are a Mermaid and Sea Horse.
And most recently, Oberon has created a line of spectacular jewelry designs, produced by Peter Stone Jewelry. These are sterling silver, with 14K gold plating, gemstones, and colored resin inlays on some pieces. Several are laser replicas of Oberon’s plaques, while others are completely original.
