Website Profile: Incognito Witch Project Artist's Statementt
The Incognito WitchTM Project is a series of paintings exploring and celebrating hidden magick. Phase one of the project features seven real women of all ages as witches/goddesses. The original seven women include me, my daughter and friends from Arizona, California and Washington. The paintings explore the intuitive, magickal, earth-centered nature of women - a nature often stifled, hidden or ignored as we venture into the world. This stifling may be the result of fear or the need to fit in and survive. The Incognito Witch Project strips away those barriers revealing the powerful and emotional self that is to be loved, desired, respected and feared.
The project began as doodles in a leather bound sketch book, as an exercise meant to clear my mind of preconceived ideas about where I should go next with my work. This new artistic direction was not immediately obvious but rather evolved over several months, slowly making itself known.
Videos on IncognitoWitch.com (click “video”) feature a three-part documentary capturing much of this evolution. Future plans include expanding the Incognito Witch Project mythology to men, couples and families in several formats. In addition, the witches/goddesses will step off the canvas and into a video production, creating life and art of their own. (Visit “Incognito Witch” on Facebook) .
“There is a raw, powerful, and beautiful eloquence to these women. That will engage, seduce and even haunt the viewer long after you walk away from them. Work like this is the very best of what we do.” — Bob Hogge, Director Monkdogz Urban Art Gallery, New York City
“Mollie’s latest series, portraits of “powerful” women represents the latest in a long line of breakthroughs. Mollie always had the chops. What’s new is the development of her vision. Pretty has made way for beautify, simplicity seems to have been replaced with nuance and paradox. These latest images have a penetrating quality that I find tremendously exciting.” — Glenn Scott Michaels, ARTiculation
