Website Profile: Soap-like substances date back to as early as 2800 BC, where in Babylon the recipe consisted of ashes, Sesame Oil, and Cassia Oil. Throughout ancient times, lye (sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide) was made by leaching hardwood ashes with rainwater. The hydrolysis reaction known as saponification, transmuting oils (acid) and lye (alkali) into soap could be considered a form of alchemy, a precursor to modern chemistry. It is with this history in mind that ALCHEMY & ASHES approaches our soap making.
Our products are handmade, using only plant and mineral based materials.
Our products do not contain any synthetic fragrance oils, dyes, or petroleum based ingredients.
Our products do not contain synthetic preservatives, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, or formaldehyde derivatives.
Our oils used in our soap making and body products are all vegetable based. We never use animal tallow, lard, or milk.
Our scents are blends of plant and resin derived essential oils.
Our dyes are derived from herbs and plants, clays, and barks.
We strive to use the highest quality, environmentally friendly and sustainable materials.
ALL SOAP IS MADE UTILIZING LYE, INCLUDING “GLYCERIN SOAP”.
Due to saponification, no lye is present in the finished soap after the curing process.
Glycerin is a byproduct of soap production, wherein a mechanical process removes the glycerin from the saponified oil mixture for a multitude of uses. If no lye was utilized, then the resulting product is a detergent, not soap.

No matter how “natural” a product may be, you may still have an allergy or other unpleasant reaction to it (Example: Poison Ivy and Arsenic are natural substances) .
