Website Profile: The Order of the Taibhsear was founded in 1997 by former members of Emerald Coast Grove in Pensacola, Florida. The home of the Order now resides in Upstate South Carolina.
Black Mountain Grove became an Order in 2003 when it began training apprentices in the Black Mountain Order of Druidry. In 2015 the name of the order was changed to the Order of the Taibhsear to reflect our shift towards a more shamanic approach. 'Taibhsear' is the Gaelic word for 'vision seeker' or 'seer.'
Our primary mission is to foster the growth and development of Groves through the Order of the Taibhsear's educational programs. If you are interested in starting a Grove in your area, please see our educational materials that will guide you through the process of organizing your own Grove.
The Order of the Taibhsear's only 'doctrine' or 'dogma' is contained in our Four Sacred Pillars. The Four Sacred Pillars are the only beliefs required for membership in our Order. As long as the individual is on a path that adheres to these principles, the rest of the individual's path is his or her own journey. Any spiritual path should be about self-improvement and not about attempts to 'improve' others; therefore the Order of the Taibhsear makes no attempts to dictate or enforce any doctrine other than the Four Sacred Pillars. The fifteen virtues of our Order are all derived from the principles contained in the Four Sacred Pillars. These Sacred Pillars are:
1. Respect for diversity and the rights of others.
2. Reverence for the Earth and all living things.
3. Service to your home Grove, to the Order, and to the larger community.
4. Personal growth in spirit, mind, emotion, and body.
These Pillars can be summarized as: Respect, Reverence, Service and Growth.
While we wish to avoid a dogmatic stance about most beliefs, it is difficult to conceive of a path of Paganism that does not adhere to these four principles. Because of this, these are the only beliefs we expect of all members of our Order, for the following reasons:
It is highly improbable that any path of Paganism could not have reverence for the Earth and all living things, since Paganism is a nature-based philosophical system;
It is highly improbable that any spiritual path or system of philosophy could be a productive means of personal growth if it did not respect diversity and the rights of others;
It is highly improbable that a person would want to be part of an organized spiritual path or philosophical system that did not function as a community;
It is highly improbable that a person would embark upon a spiritual path if that person was not interested in spiritual, mental, emotional and physical growth.
It is for the reasons stated above that the Rite of Initiation into the Order of the Taibhsear requires allegiance to the principles embodied in the Four Sacred Pillars.
If you are joining the Order of the Taibhsear, you will be asked if you affirm these values.
