A Journey Through The Elements
A powerful new Video by Janet and Stewart Farrar and Gavin Bone
- SoThisFilms 1998
Filmed entirely in Ireland, mystical land of ancient stone circles and of Faeire, this new video weaves all the power of that magical land into a story of one young woman's spiritual journey. Seeking a religion that speaks to her on a personal level, this journey leads her-and us-to the door of Janet and Stewart Farrar and Gavin Bone (see "who are Janet, Stewart & Gavin" just below). Here she is introduced to the religion of Witchcraft.
Joining Janet, Stewart and Gavin in their household's kitchen and parlor, Corina is instructed in the basic tools of Witchcraft/Wicca and their elemental correspondences. We get a peek into Janet's potion cabinet as she explains the healing uses of herbs and oils. We then stroll into Gavin's study for a lesson on the properties of magical stones and watch as he shows Corina how to heal the aura and feel the energies in her own body.
The setting may be casual but the lessons are intense. Indeed, Janet and Gavin often emphasize the need for hard work and responsibility throughout their instruction as they lead Corina through the steps toward dedication to the Craft.
Janet speaks about the roots of modern Witchcraft in down to earth terms, often weaving humorous anecdotes into her account of the early history of the Craft. Stewart reminisces about his first encounter with Alex Sanders-an experience which eventually lead him-along with Janet and later with Gavin-to pen some of the most famous books on Witchcraft that we have today. Gavin shares his love and deep respect for the land as he leads Corina through her elemental lessons and shares some of the local folklore of the ancient wells and hidden places.
As Corina is instructed on how to approach and integrate each element personally through meditation and study, we join with her in experiencing the magic and natural energies of some of the most ancient and magical sites on the Isle. Her quest eventually leads her to proclaim her dedication to the Craft in a beautiful outdoor ceremony rich in meaning and reverent in spirit.
The video ends as Stewart joins Janet in a stirring rendition of Doreen Valiente's "The Charge of The Goddess". But even at the end, we are left with the thought that the quest for wisdom, for healing and for reconnection with the land goes on. And that it is only within ourselves-as we explore the natural and divine world that is the Witch's temple-that we shall find that which we seek.
This video is inspirational, magical and very much earth based. Thank you Janet, Stewart and Gavin for this intimate look into your lives and for making us proud to call ourselves Witches.

"The magical trio has done it again. You've read them. Now see, and hear them. Hear them tell it like it is, dispell common myths, both ancient and modern, and share some of their insights with you. Travel with an initiate on part of her journey of discovery. This treat ends with a beautiful montage of images voiced over by Janet in Stewart incanting Valiente's Charge.
Glimpses of the Irish countryside are highlighted throughout. For those who've been, its a pleasant remembrance of those excursions. For those who haven't, may this show you some of the wondrous ancient sites that await you across the pond.
Highly recommended for all collections. Useful as a training tool and as an introduction for those without a current teacher. You're given the opportunity to flavor some of what its like to become a Witch. Do not expect a how to, that this is not. It is a discovery of part of the journey through the Craft. We eagerly await to see the journey continue.
| Who are Janet, Stewart and Gavin?|
(from the SoThisFilms home page)
Janet and Stewart Farrar, authors of many books on the subject of witchcraft, are well known internationally as experts on Witchcraft and the Occult. Stewart Farrar worked as a journalist, playwright and an author of fiction before forming his first coven with Janet in 1971. Gavin Bone, a Registered Nurse, joined them in 1993, and has since worked with them on The Pagan Path; a study of Paganism worldwide, and The Healing Craft; a study of the relationship between traditional healing and Paganism.
To date they have published over ten books between them, which have been translated into German, Czech, Japanese, Portuguese and Dutch. This has established them as the foremost international authors on this subject. Many of their works are considered to be standard training material for modern Wiccan Covens. They have their own Coven in the Republic of Ireland, but still find time to lecture regularly both in Europe and the United States.
