CANDLE MAGICK
In this 3-month intensive course, students will be taken through a comprehensive, non-sectarian overview of the ancient and powerful practice of Candle Magick. Learn the basic symbolism of the various candle colors, types and shapes - including 7-Day glass encased, male and female figural, skulls, and everything in between. Become familiar with magickal herbs and essential oils blends that compliment your Working, how to properly Dress and Charge a candle, as well as how to determine the best astrological time to burn your candle. Along with a guide to attaining a meditative, magickal mindset, creating Sacred Space, constructing an altar for your Candle Magick Working and exercizes for attuning to the Element of Fire, the student will be instructed on how to create a personally significant and effective ritual. Intermediate and advanced concepts such as Double-Dressing and Loading candles with magickal powders, the usage of candle burning with Psalms in the hoodoo Tradition, and the creation of potent Kameas and sigils, will also be touched upon.
Students will be asked to plan and perform a Candle Magick working during this hands-on course (which will require some moderate supply purchases) .
The course fee is $40USD, is payable by PayPal, and includes a certificate of completion for those who successfully finish.
Course Level: Novice - Intermediate
Course Requirements:
* Approx. 3-4 hours / lesson (36-48 hrs total)
* Students are required to have access to a digital camera with which to take pictures of their work.
Required Materials: Candle (s) , Dressing Oil, Carving Tool, Altar Items of Your Choosing (*Please refrain from purchasing your supplies for this course until you are instructed to during class*)

Course Outline
Lesson 1: Intro to and Overview of Candle Magick
This lesson introduces students to the physical materials, mental/psychic processes, and basic rituals involved in successful candle magick. It also provides an look at how various faiths incorporate candle magick into their practices.
Lesson 2: How to Cast an Effective Spell
The most basic necessities to spell-work are outlined: clear intent, and focused energy. Advice is given as to has to hone these skills, as well as the important ethical considerations that need to be made well ahead of time.
Lesson 3: Choosing a Candle
In candle magick, there is nearly unlimited possibilities as to the candle one can use. Many occult suppliers have an overwhelming number of options, and the most common uses and symbolism of these will be examined. Color, shape, type and sometimes ingredients all play a part in the overall energy of a spell. The student will learn how to easily determine what is best for their needs.
Lesson 4: Creating and Activating Sacred Space
In any magick ritual it is important to have an area that was created just for that purpose. Sacred space in which to work magick serves many purposes, all of which are addressed in this lesson. The student is presented with many ideas and methods for creating and activating Sacred Space specifically for candle magick, so that they can find one that works best for them.
Lesson 5: Achieving a Ritual Mind-Space
Keeping the mind focused on the task at hand during a spell is a necessity, and in this lesson the student is given exercizes that will help hone their skils in relaxation and concentration in order to enhance their abilities during a ritual.
Lesson 6: Candle Meditation - Attuning to the Flame
Candle magick is an act of Fire Magick, and as such the student should be familiar with the powers and influence of the Element of Fire. Exercizes are provided that help the student tune into Fire and become emotionally linked to a candle's flame, so that they can easily mentally connect to a working of candle magick.
Lesson 7: Constructing an Altar
Most magick involves an altar of some sort, and candle magick is no exception. The student will learn what they will need to include on an altar for candle magick, so that they can better prepare for the actual casting. Ideas and suggestions from various sources are presented so that the student may choose one that works best for them.
Lesson 8: Programming Your Candle Pt. 1 - Inscribing Your Intent
Preparing the candle for the spell is central to the ritual, and each part of this process serves to program and charge the candle with the intended goal of the magick. In this lesson the student learns the first step - inscription of intent. Learn various magickal alphabets and occult symbols that can be used to create a powerfully suggestive candle that resonates deep within the subconscious and the astral alike.
Lesson 9: Programming Your Candle Pt. 2 - Dressing, Charging and Naming
Once the candle has been inscribed, it needs to be dressed with oil. Learn how to find appropriate dressing oils, or how to make them yourself, as well asn the correct way to apply them for maximum impact. If the magick is one someone else's behalf, such as a healing, then how to ritually name the candle is also addressed.
Lesson 10: Performing Your Candle Magick Ritual
The student has been provided with all the tools for creating a successful and effective candle magick ritual, including such details as choosing favorable astrological timing. In this lesson a ritual outline and checklist is provided, which can be used as-is, simply as a reference, or may be tweaked to fit the student's personal needs. The student will be asked to take and submit a picture of their final candle magick altar post-working, for review.
Lesson 11: Intermediate Candle Magick Options - Herbs, Psalms, Chants
Now that all the basics have been covered, the student will be presented with additional material that can be incorporated into future candle magick, once they are comfortable enough. The HooDoo tradition of using Biblical Psalms as spells, creating or using established chants as spells and focus-aids, as well as how to make magickal powders that can be used to Double-Dress a candle, or burned or sprinkled for added environmental effect - are all presented for perusal.
Lesson 12: Advanced Candle Magick Options - Planetary Seals, Sigils, etc
Digging into the traditions of Ceremonial Magick, the student is shown introductory material on the creation and usage of planetary seals / kameas, and sigils. While these methods are more advanced and require a deeper understanding of the occult arts, they are easily incorporated into candle magick once the student is ready. This lesson introduces the topic for those who are interested in doing more study into it on their own.
