Introduction to Wicca Experiential Online Course [A Witchvox Sponsor]

Category: Courses

Website Profile: The Lotus Academy of Spiritual Arts Presents....
INTRODUCTION TO WICCA
While books and anecdotes from Pagan Elders can provide a wealth of information, nothing will initiate you into the spirituality of Wicca exept your own personal explorations into the energy of the Earth, the Goddess and the God. This course is an experiential exploration of the spirituality and practice of modern Wicca. The focus of this class will be preparing the student to launch thier own Neo-Pagan spiritual journey, by teaching the necessary foundation techniques of the Craft. Among the practices that will be presented, train and hopefully evoke in the student the crucial experiences that are the core of Wicca, are exercizes in Grounding & Centering, instructions on altar construction, meditations for attuning to the Goddess & God and connecting with Nature, teaching the creation of Sacred Space, Circle Casting methods and introductory discussion on the importance of divination in the Craft. More basic academic material will also be covered, such as the Wiccan Wheel of the Year, Wiccan Ethics, and Solitary -vs- Coven practice.
This 3-month intensive course will introduce and require participation in a daily ritual practice and progress journal.
By the end of this course, the student will have a deep, personal understanding of the religion and spirituality of Wicca, and be able to make an educated and intuitively-informed decision as to thier readiness to commit to this particular Pagan Path.
The course fee is $40 USD, is payable by PayPal, and includes a certificate of completion for those who successfully finish. The fee does not include the required text book and altar accessories, as many may already have the materials on hand.
Course Level: Novice
Course Requirements: Approx. 3-4 hours / lesson (36-48 hrs total)
Required Text: Witch Crafting by Phyllis Curott
Required Materials: Candle, Divination Tool (Tarot, Runes, I Ching, etc) , Altar Items and Spell Accoutrements of Your Choice
Course Outline :
Lesson 1: Introduction to Wicca - What Is It Exactly?
A wealth of fair and balanced information is presented about Wicca and Witchcraft from various sources, including ReligiousTolerace.org. This lesson strives to make it clear what Wicca is and is not, and to dispell any misconceptions. Material outlining some of the more prominent traditions within Wicca is also posted.
Lesson 2: Introductory Practical Exercizes
The student is presented with information about the importance of Grounding and Centering, as well as basic meditation. Exercizes that hone these skills in the student are assigned. This is intended to begin the process of experiential education in the practices of Wicca.
Lesson 3: Attuning to the Divine - The Goddess and God of Wicca
The myth cycle of the Goddess and God are presented, along with more in-depth information about the role of each of these Divinties in the world and also within the Wiccan religion. The student is asked to begin a meditational practice that brings them closer to the energies of the Goddess and God, so that they can internalize the experience and the concepts inherant to the religion. This is also a prime opportunity to begin loving devotion to the Deities, if the student feels so inclined.
Lesson 4: Attuning to Nature and the Elements
The Earth and the Four Elements are powerful allies and teachers to the Witch. In this lesson the student is assigned meditations that will take them into the cthonic energies that surround us, but are so often ignored. Learning to cultivate and maintain an intuitive connection to the Earth is an important skill that will serve any seeking soul well throughout their spiritual journey.
Lesson 5: Sacred Space and Circle Casting
Creating and maintaining a space reserved just for the Divine and spiritual practices is an important step in committing to a Path. Just as important is being able to set up a psychic boundary that will serve many useful and necessary spiritual functions. Instructions for achieving both of these goals are presented in simple, yet effective way, and in a Wiccan context. The student is asked to begin practicing a Wiccan Circle Casting daily, in order to become comfortable and proficient at the process. Building a Wiccan altar is also assigned.
Lesson 6: Raising Energy for Magick
When Wiccans work in Circle, one necessary component of any ritual is raising energy. This energy is then used for a variety of spiritual pursuits - from casting a spell, to simply lending psychic energy to a meditation for a deeper and more intense result. There are many ways to raise energy, and these are presented in this lesson's material. The student is asked to experement with different ways of raising energy within their Circle, and then looking for any differences that they feel in the performance of routine meditations when backed by the energy.
Lesson 7: Divination and the Craft
Divination plays an important part in a Witch's life; it can warn that a certain spell might not be successful without revision, or provide hope and a timeline about when troubles will be over and even lend advice on how to hasten a turn-around. There are MANY forms of divination, and some work better than others for various people. This lesson the student is asked to begin a daily divination practice within their Circle, in order to begin the process of honing this important skill.
Lesson 8: The Wheel of the Year - Sabbats and Esbats - Wiccan Holidays
Now that the student has a good grasp on the practical aspects of Wicca, we begin exploring the liturgical side. The solar Wheel of the Year is introduced, along with the myth cycle that goes along with it. The lunar Esbats, and the types of Wiccan gatherings held on these days are also addressed. It is highly recommended that the student obtain The Witches' Sabbats by Mike Nichols at or by this time.
Lesson 9: Wiccan Ethics
Before the student is instructed in and assigned their first act of Wiccan magick, the all-important topic of Wiccan Ethics is discussed in detail. Many different Pagan ethics are presented alongside the Wiccan Rede, so that a more balanced view is presented, and to facilitate intelligent debate. Differing interpritations of the Rede are also given for the student's purusal, and then they are asked to meditate further on the subject to reach a personal intuitive opinion.
Lesson 10: Spells and How to Cast Them
There are many different aspects that go into a Wiccan spell-casting. All of the necessary components - mental, emotional, spiritual and physical - will be addressed. The student is asked to meditate on an issue that they would like to work on by way of spell work, keeping ethics in the forefront. Once a decision has been arrived at and approved, the student may then begin gathering the needed accoutrements.
Lesson 11: Ritual Tools of the Witch
Wiccan ritual utilizes many magickal tools, which vary from tradition to tradition. In this lesson, information about the most universal Wiccan tools and their use is presented. The athame, boline, Book of Shadows, bell, cord, wand, and sword are among the tools covered in detail. Students can then begin gathering what they need/want at this point in their practice and prior to their first full magick-working Wiccan ritual.
Lesson 12: Solitary Practice -vs- Coven Initiation
The student now has a working knowledge of the religion of Wicca, and the spiritual experiences that can be expected to continue and build if one continues down that particular Path. The final questions as to how exactly to continue are addressed: should one practice solo, or try and find a coven. The pros and cons of each option are explored and the student is asked to do some final introspectice work about whether they feel Wicca is the correct Path for them, and if so, how they would like to pursue it further.
