Bardic Circle Featuring Victoria Parks...

Song for Ostara
(by Victoria Parks)

Audience Count: 8,803

The Story...

Song for Ostara was inspired by my muse the day after my birthday last March. It was her birthday gift to me on a beautiful early spring day when you could finally open your windows and let in the fresh air. I was so inspired it took me nearly no time to write until I got to the third verse. I struggled with the third verse wanting to write a verse about birds. All the struggling made me tired. With fairy sleep dust in my eyes I fell to sleep with the warm spring breeze blowing on me through my bedroom window. I fell to sleep to the sound of rioting birds in the trees and the song going through my head. I dreamt the third verse complete—simple! I awoke and quickly penned it before my fickle muse could change it. The song begins with the light of Bird swelling in the maiden then blooms with the very welcome snowdrops that faithfully share their beauty in mid-March every year. By the end of the song Ostara's "eyes of palest green grow darker by Mid-summer." It is my deep hope this song brings you a sense of peace and renewal in these difficult times when there are so many in the world bent on destruction. Here's wishing everyone a blessed Ostara!

Song for Ostara
(words & music by Victoria Parks)

Out of the dark her rip’ning seed
The light within the womb of Brid*
Soon Maiden becomes Mother
Tis the time of Bloduwedd**
Ostara dons her floral wreath
and Maiden becomes Mother
Snowdrops seen in patches of green
Along her train of melting snow
Where she treads, they bow their heads
To she who makes flowers grow
The warming Earth, Her scent so sweet
With lamb and rabbits round her feet
offered in Her honor
The sun plays in Her flowing hair
The robin’s egg all nesting there
in greening robes that don Her
The trees once quiet are now all o’riot
With wren and robin singing
Blue and bright, the skies are in flight
With flocks of birds now winging
Forget-me-nots and creeping phlox
Are tangled in Her fiery locks
Their colors all become Her
A comely Queen, our Lady Spring
Her lovely eyes of palest green
Grow darker by mid-summer
