The Magus
(words & music by Cassandra Syndrome)When was it you turned away? Shut yourself in tower high Up above the troubled fray Let our turmoil pass you by
Corrupted by indifference Complacent behind tower walls Avoiding this experience As our world begins to fall
Impassive Uncaring guardian Reclusive So blind
Where is the Magus Where the charm Where the power to hold back harm Where is the Magus What incantation Can save us from annihilation
Once the beacon in the night You stopped our fall from grace Your words carried with great might Yet now you hide your face
Impassive Uncaring guardian Reclusive So blind
Where is the Magus Where the charm Where the power to hold back harm Where is the Magus What incantation Can save us from annihilation
No power, no shield, No refuge from hell No wand, no weapon, No breaking the spell

The Story...
The Magus is based off the second card of the Tarot Major Arcana, the Magician or Magus. In our quest to create a song for each of the Major Arcana, a big goal is to make the cards relate-able to our current lives. In the song The Magus, the Magician is portrayed in his role as the power behind the throne, the puller of strings. In this case, the stockbrokers, bankers and power mongers that contributed to the global financial crisis.
In live performances, The Magus gets a huge reaction--it has rapidly become one of our fan base's favorites. It was definitely on the top four list for singles off the album. Our other consideration for a single was songs that make an impact--a song that combines listenability with message. In light of the continuing strain on countries around the world and the citizens that rely on them, we felt The Magus was most relevant to our world right now.
The album Satire X is offered in three different packages--The Basic, which is the physical CD, The Download (just the music) , and The Juvenal. The Juvenal is a special edition--only 100 will ever be sold. It includes a special edition tshirt and the first three Tarot cards from The Cassandra Syndrome Tarot. The Magus is one, the other two are The Fool and The Priestess.

Artist Profile: Hailing from Maryland, Cassandra Syndrome is a female-fronted operatic metal band. This passionate, engaging act strikes the perfect balance between playful and sinister. Cassandra Syndrome is an intimate theater of darkness and seduction.
Eschewing the synthesizer-laden stereotypes of symphonic metal, Cassandra Syndrome (formed in 2005) revolutionizes the genre with a unique blend of axe-heavy melodic metal and operatic vocals. The powerful alliance of Joe Cariola's punishing bass, scathing riffs of Jen Tonon's rhythm guitar, and throbbing beats of Jay Jericho's drums create a driving ground assault which weakens your defenses before being met by the searing lead lines of guitarist Chris Kackley. Above it all, radiant as Angelic Death, the resplendent soprano of Irene Jericho soars above the battlefield.
The band is currently touring to support their album. Past performances include Ram's Head Live, the Ottobar, Club Orpheus and The Depot in Baltimore, MD, The Asylum, Bound and DC Midnight in Washington, DC, Alley Katz in Richmond and many more. Cassandra Syndrome has also been featured in festivals at Battery Park, NY, Winchester, VA, North Andover, MA, College Park, MD and Richmond, VA.
