Valinor's Call

The Story...
Valinor's Call is a song about the end of Tolkiens' Third Age, with lyrics compliments of my sister Eileen Kaynan.
From the Encyclopedia of Arda website: The White Ship sailed from the Grey Havens into the Uttermost West, carrying the Ring-bearers to Aman. Its departure marked the end of the Third Age. On the White Ship sailed Elrond, and Galadriel, and Gandalf the White, who had been the Keepers of the Three Rings. With them went the two Hobbits who had kept Sauron's Great Ring, Bilbo the Ring-finder and Frodo the Ring-bearer.
After reading the words my sister sent to me, I had in mind a Celtic/sea-faring feel for the music. A combination of acoustic guitar, bagpipes, dulcimer and tribal drums appears in different spots throughout the song, with an ambient background and strings throughout.
Working with lyrics is a gret help for arranging a piece of music, as there is a built-in arrangement with the words right there in front of you. Then it's just a matter of trying to figure out what instruments, rhythms, and chords to use. Simple, right? :-) Seriously though, this was a satisfying song to work on and complete, especially as the words come from my sister, who along with my brother and myself, share a common love for the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Enjoy.
Recorded: home Studio
Guests/Players: Just me, a sometimes elusive muse, a PC with recording sofware, and a great deal of patience and self doubt :-)
Technical Notes: Korg X2 Keyboard Roland V-Drums
Artist Profile: I began playing drums in 3rd grade. I played in marching bands, stage bands, and drum corps all through school. I've played in a wide variety of bar bands over the years, and picked up piano and keyboards along the way. A few years ago, I decided that all of those playing experiences had to have a result of some kind, that I should find a voice of my own.
