The Story...
This is a little ritual prep type of tune. It is short but I think it has good energy building capability. I was going for an image of a roaring fire in a Viking village at the moth of a fjord. I can see the water rippling and the moon cresting a huge shrub crusted hill, The village is out in the darkness at the perimeter of the fire dancing wildly to this song and with each beat they are building up energy. In the distance a boat becomes visible and begins to sound it's horn to announce the arrival of the roving warband. The villagers respond with a horn of thier own and it all meshes beautifully with the music. I began with a driving drum beat and layered the rest of the percussion on top. I then recorded the two flute parts and after several listens decided that it needed something else. I went with my sounding horn and REALLY love the way it wells up into the mix almost overwhelming it then slowly sliding back down into the darkness. I had a great time recording this song. I think I will be doing many more in this style.
I NEED MORE MUSICIANS!!! IT'S JUST ME HERE! ;) Are there any musicians in the Fort Wayne area that are interested in forming a band? I usually play heavier music than this, but I had such a good time recording this that I am certainly going to do more like it.
Recorded: Recorded In Ragnguatr Studios on 5-25-2005
Guests/Players: All drums and percussion performed by Rob Crocker All flutes and horns performed by Rob Crocker
Technical Notes: Composition with Djembe, Frame Drum, Tamborine, Flute and Sounding Horn. Recorded and Mixed on my PC with CoolEdit Pro 2
Artist Profile: I have been playing guitar and any other type of musical instrument I could get my hands on for a very long time. I've never had formal lessons and just learn on my own. A lot of times I never even know What I'm going to play, I just improvise and play as I go. Many of my songs have been recorded like this and though I'm biased...I don't feel like it has ever held me back. I do my best stuff when I just relax and go with the music!
