The Devil's March
(by Traditional, Tiffany Moon)

Audience Count: 4,425

The Story...

The Devil's March is one of the six Scandinavian melodies selected and adapted for The Vampire's Lyre, which was recorded and produced by Tiffany Moon for sale at Buffy Fest, held in San Diego in October of 2003.

Ms. Moon was in the process of creating a recording of Finnish folk songs for small kanteles, or psalteries, when she heard of Buffy Fest 2003. In the spirit of the festival, she selected six of these songs, transposed those written in major keys into minor, and set them in a cave with an echo. New names were also given to them to match the vampire theme.

The result was the Vampire's Lyre, a recording indended to be a fun piece for a fantasy convention, but which has become the artist's most popular work, selling particularly during the Fall, prior to Halloween, Hallowmas or Samhain parties. The Devil's March, featured here, is just one song of a now great CD that can be looped for meditation, spell work, or party ambiance!

The Devil's March is featured here because it brings out the deep, hollow tones of the instrument being played, enough so to describe it and create the independent imagery that seems to be created of all songs played on this instrument.

Please close your eyes, turn down the volume on your computer, and enjoy. If the link provided here does not open the mp3 file, please copy the URL to your browser and reload, or visit the artist's Website.

Recorded: Studio of T Moon, San Diego in October 2003
Guests/Players: Tiffany Moon

Technical Notes: The Scandinavian psaltery used for this recording is one of the oldest instruments in recorded history, having its roots in the Kalevala. According to this folk legend, the first kantele, as the psaltery is known in Finland, was made from the jaw bone of a pike and the hair of young maidens. When it was played for the first time, the maidens cried and their tears became blue pearls when they touched the sea.
