Bardic Circle Featuring...

David Pendragon ...

Lay Down Your Guns
(by David Pendragon and Ben Mansfield)

Audience Count: 2,792

The Story...

This song originally started life with the title "Blood in the Desert". {If you look around on the site where this link will take you, you will find the original 'acoustic' version.} At the time that I wrote it I was thinking about ancient desert cultures. The Bedouin, Native American and Australian Aboriginal. One thing all these cultures have in common is the massive upheaval that signified the arrival of Western White culture.
The song has gone though many lyrical ' tweaks' and changes and in the process has evolved for me into a general 'protest' about the use of firearms and acts of 'war' in the name of 'peace'. I am not in this song attempting to blame any one group of people for the sorry state we as a race find ourselves in. I am postulating that if no-one picked up a gun or other weapon we would have fair less killing. I know how incredibly idealistic that concept is, but idealism is were changes begin. It is fruitless to say we are fighting for peace. I do support and have in my own life attempted to protect myself and other people from harm. What I learned from my Martial Arts teacher was three golden rules. One. Use words to solve aggressive situations where ever possible.
Two. If there is no alternative whatsoever to using physical force to stop an aggressor causing harm to you or others do so only with the amount of force necessary to stop the attacker from continuing their attack and render them harmless.
Three. Once the attack and threat has ceased do all you can to render assistance to anyone who has received harm in the course of the action. Including the 'aggressor'
I don't know how we stop war, I just know that we must and that guns and the proliferation of guns is NOT helping.
Hence the song "Lay Down Your Guns"
Please help by playing this song to everyone you can and guide others to this Bardic Circle to hear it. Thank you and Blessings.

Recorded: Canberra 2007 @ The Studio
Guests/Players: Acoustic: Guitar: Ernie Van Veen.
Vocals: David Pendragon

Technical Notes: This song is centered around the acoustic guitar and the drums musically.
The vocals are multilayers and have all been sung by one singer....

Artist Profile: I am David Pendragon, a Musician Tarot Journeyman, I currently create music in The Studio in Canberra Australia. I often play with the band Tribeworld Ensemble. There are a number of albums available and it would help enormously if folks who enjoy or appreciate the time it takes to create high quality music, would buy a copy of one of the albums. If you do this, YOU are part of the creation of the next one, [and on a less 'esoteric' note...I can pay my rent and food.] Thank you and a humble blessing from me to you.
