Prometheus
(words & music by Annie)Under the moon they shivered On top of the damp cold earth Children of my own hand I failed to keep warm I was warned by Zeus But I have no remorse I needed a piece of his fire So I slipped in his back door
Now my wrists are chained And the chains are locked My bleeding body swings Between the wind and the rock
The vulture swoops down His eye piercing my side The wound burns like a fire That will never die
In the caves my childrens' cries Echoed through my mind But I saw their greatness Illuminated through time
I was warned by Zeus But I have no remorse When I found his stables I stole his fastest horse
I rode up to the sky In his chariot of gold And I dipped my hand into the fiery bowl of the sun
Now my wrists are chained And the chains are locked My bleeding body swings Between the wind and the rock

The Story...
Many of Hobbyhorse's songs are inspired by world mythology. Myths, we believe, are not lies or outdated stories, but stories of deep and eternal truths.
In ancient Greek mythology, Prometheus was the creator of mankind. He was a powerful giant, one of the race of Titans. He knew that mankind would need fire in order to create civilization and become great and powerful. Zeus, king of the gods, forbade humans the use of fire. However, Prometheus disobeyed Zeus, risked everything and stole fire from the gods and gave it to mankind. Prometheus was punished dearly for his disobedience. Have we, humankind, used this gift of fire wisely? Has Prometheus's sacrifice been honored? We are not so sure, but we are sure that human beings are exceptionally smart and creative. We have a chance to develop our civilizations in harmony with nature and to help make this Earth a wonderful place for all of life. - Annie and Phil
