Persephone
(by Michelle Glover)

Audience Count: 4,780

The Story...
This song is inspired by the Greek myth of Persephone.
Persephone is on the one hand, Queen of the Underworld, who guides souls through the darkness and the period of sleep that winter represents.
On the other hand she is Goddess of the Spring, returning from the abode of Hades to rejoin her mother, Demeter (Mother Goddess of crops, abundance, growth, etc) in the light of a new spring and period of growth.
This myth isn't necessarily talking about literal death, but a symbolic death or ending of the old outworn ways, feelings, personality issues which hold the soul back from spiritual progress. Once these things are shed, the load is lifted, and new life, new phases, can take place.
The song is about wanting to follow Persephone down into the Underworld, which although sounds a little dark, is a positive sign that one is ready to give up something old, to 'die the death' to it, and to come back renewed.
I wrote the song on an old acoustic guitar - one my mother gave me when I was very young, and that I still use to compose songs on. It was one of those songs which just came from feeling in a certain way.
This is a clip - as we've only just released the debut album on CD - so we're not as yet allowing full songs to be distributed online, but hopefully it will give enough of a flavour.
