Skadi's Touch
(words & music by Cassandra Syndrome)Shadows all begin to grow Living water stops its flow As all now tumble into sleep Summer's secret there to keep
Hail to Queen of ice and snow Hail the Goddess of the cold
Now the dancer in the night Shows herself in the moonlight Ivory her hair and skin Pale eyes drink the forest in
Hail to Queen of ice and snow Hail the Goddess of the cold
Freeze us there in shining glass As the Goddess dances past Lightly dance from home to hall Winter dances for us all
Hail to Queen of ice and snow Hail the Goddess of the cold

The Story...
Winter has always been one of my favorite seasons. It's like the deep breath you take before you sing. Or the first cup of coffee in the morning before you get going. It's what clears your system so you can function. I love using this time to reset my system--to take stock, figure out what to change and being to implement those ideas. I love the snow, the ice, the cold. I love the transformation, the sense of movement as Autumn freezes into this crystalline season. That dance of change, of metamorphosis, moves me every year. Last year, as Autumn’s days began to grow colder, I wrote Skadi’s Touch. The image of a dancer in white spinning her way across the land, leaving lakes, trees and the last lingering leaves encased in shining glass in her wake was foremost in my mind as I drafted the lyrics.
In the wake of that pale dancer, all is silence, all is cold. Yet, beneath the cold surface of everything we see, everything we touch, life is stirring. All around us, just beneath the snow and fallen leaves, just beneath the bark on the naked trees, just under and behind and inside of everything natural that you look at, teeming life is rocketing around, building and tumbling and growing and strengthening...just waiting for that first breath of spring air to come bursting forth in all its chaotic glory.
Skadi is the Norse Goddess of Winter. She is a jotunn, daughter of Thjazi, wife of the god Njörðr and stepmother of Freyr and Freyja. She is traditionally counted among the Aesir.

Artist Profile: Hailing from Maryland, Cassandra Syndrome is Irene Jericho on vocals, Chris Kackley on guitar, Joe Cariola on bass and Jay Jericho on drums. Irene and Jay began their musical journey together as part of folk rock band Revel Moon . After three years of working with Revel Moon, they found themselves experimenting with a harder, more alternative sound.
Lyrically things were changing, too. Irene's compositions had become increasingly socially and politically conscious and they called for a stronger, more edgy style. Joe joined the band when he appeared out of Irene's past after a stint as an Army Airborne Ranger. CS's final member, Chris, joined the band in December 2006, adding his searing lead guitar riffs and further cementing the band's dark and edgy sound.
Cassandra Syndrome's debut demo, Dissent Into Heresy, was released to rave reviews in early 2007.
Cassandra Syndrome is about to release their first full-length album, 'Of Patriots and Tyrants.' The politically charged and socially conscious tone of their debut album, is Cassandra Syndrome's homage to their namesake. Cassandra, the famed seeress who foresaw the fall of Troy, was cursed by the God Apollo so that no one would believe her cautionary visions. To have Cassandra Syndrome is to share Cassandra's fate—to see a dark future yet be unable to convince others of the truth.
The dark, heavy hammer laid down by Chris Kackley on guitar, Joe Cariola on bass and Jay Jericho on drums sets the stage for this intimate theater of darkness and seduction. However, it was the sinister aria of Irene Jericho which inspired renowned mixing engineer Tim Greencorn (Feist, the Stars) to take on the project.
In a desperate attempt to break Cassandra's curse, Cassandra Syndrome has created a passionate plea with 'Of Patriots and Tyrants' that all fans of unique, inspired music should heed.
Cassandra Syndrome has a livejournal community, a Facebook page and a MySpace page . All are updated regularly--stay connected to the world of CS with any of them.
