Silent No Longer
(words & music by Michael Dolan)

In every farmer's hand
in every hunter's eye
there is a reverence for the land and every moonlit sky
in every artist's mind
in every mother's heart
there's an intrinsic understanding of the magick arts

In the corridors of power
remnants of the mighty Rome
forgotten are the ancient secrets hidden in their sacred tome
in daily rituals
of candle, cup and robe
or winter solstice where the son (sun) is born to light the world

the Pagan ways survive in tales and ancient art
hidden in the trappings that they dare not wash away
And somehow still we recognize the symbols in our hearts
To dare, to will, to know, has always been our way
but silence me no longer
we cannot stay afraid

In every Easter egg
in every Christmas tree
a billion Christians help preserve our ways for all to see
Through beaded doorways
they seek advice
never understanding how the cards depict the tree of life

In skeptics' ivory tower
through scientific gains
the planets still revolve around constellations bearing old god's names
to map our DNA
break that mighty code
again we prove by our own reflection, as above then so below.

Silent No Longer
(by Michael Dolan)

Audience Count: 14,095

The Story...

Silent No Longer is from the new album Topaz Stars in a Violet Sky. The album was recorded as part of the RPM Challenge- a global spur to write and record an entire album during the month of February. TSiaVS is my second completed challenge.

This song is about how Paganism survived through the last two thousand years, and how the more we learn, the more it seems to make sense.

Our mythology holds that we practiced in secret, passing down our teachings in hiding from the church. The reality behind the myth, I find even more inspirational. So primal and essential were our teachings that even the mighty church was forced to incorporate them into itself to persist. Easter, Christmas... We hid our teachings in plain sight within Christianity itself. We hid them within the tarot, and even the uninitiated feel the aura of magick when they create a work of art or experience the circle of life.

Even now, in the age of science and reason, our teachings are confirmed. From the atomic structure of the atom to the orbits of the planets, to the study of our own DNA, we find that the microcosm really does reflect the macrocosm.

I believe that it is time to stand up and say "See? we knew this all along".

Recorded: Recorded as part of the RPM Challenge 2009
Guests/Players: Recorded entirely my Michael Dolan, with some
help from Rob McClung on the drum tracks.

Technical Notes: Recorded in my Mac based home studio. Primary instruments/ FX included a Line6 Variax through a POD X3 Live, an Ibanez bass, and a few other toys routed into an M-Audio FW-410.
