Witchvox Chapter: Pagan Music   Chapter Page Views: 2,612,050   Bardic Circle Featuring... Oaklark ... Blessed Be chant (by Oaklark) Audience Count: 13,563 The Story... I have been practicing the craft for 15 years, and have never written a chant, although I have wanted to. Blessed Be is one of my favorite invocations. I was driving the other day and saw someone's "Blessed Be" bumper sticker, and that triggered my wanting to write a "Blessed Be" chant. I'm not trying to sell this, but hope that people may be interested in it and use it in circle. I find it very meditative. I'm not sure if the grammar is correct and will await comment and outrage (?) at my sentence structure! I chose four objects of the blessing for the four directions. You, the world, all life, and spirit. I also wanted the chant to be endlessly cyclic, so started and ended it on the Em an octave apart. I chose the drums to give it as close to a pagan feel as my keyboard will allow, and added the flute to give it some depth. I started with the idea of "Blessed Be" and tried much more complicated lyrics, only to end up with the very simple lyrics of the song to make it easy to chant and get into the mantra of "Blessed Be". I usually compose at the piano, although this one is easy to play guitar to since it is written in the key of G.
