Freedom
(words & music by Brian Morse)Six thousand years of war Whatcha still fightin’for You call it the promised land But all I see is sand And I just think it’s odd Makin’ war in the name of God If he were here today I know you’d hear him say
Freedom, Goddess give me freedom Freedom, Goddess set me free Two thousand years ago A man that we all know Addressed and angry throng, said “We can get along” They said, “That is just absurd” And They edited his word If he were here today I know you’d hear him say
Freedom, Goddess give me freedom Freedom, Goddess set me free
Oh, mercy me Its such a tragedy Don’t understand the calamity But I’m not a member of the big three
Spoken "Freedom of religion means all religions people You keep givin' away your freedom a little at a time Pretty soon their ain't nothin' left If you're tired of that you got to say so You got to say no, you got to say let me go And scream at the top of your lungs what it is you want...
Shouted at the end of each measure "Freedom!"
Back 1500 hundred years began The reign of Mecca man He retreated to a cave To learn how to behave But he is not to blame For the killing in his name If he were here today I know you’d hear him say
Freedom, Goddess give me freedom Freedom, Goddess set me free

The Story...
Watching the news one night I was astonished to see number of stories about people inflicting violence and harm onto others because of their religious beliefs. Most of the stories are from what I call the big three: Christian, Jewish, and Islamic faiths. Although, pagans are not immune from such petty rivalries. I have seen my share of ridiculous witch wars (and they are all ridiculous by the way) to know that we can be just as bad. I saw Christians picketing the funerals of fallen soldiers, Muslims Extremists throwing acid on school girls, Jewish armies attacking villages, all in the name of their respective gods. Now everyone has a their own take on spirituality, but you can never force someone into a belief, it just doesn't work.
I wrote this song as sort of a wake up call to people everywhere that, a god really would not need us to fight their battles for them. Fighting for centuries of some piece of land, living by what you think an ancient religious scholar meant, hating what is different, that, in my opinion is as far away from god as one can possibly get. The world is a very small place and we all have to live on it together. True freedom comes from tolerance and understanding. When you can stand next to someone and defend their right to express their view even if you don't agree with what they are saying, then you can truly be free.
