Bardic Circle Featuring...

Skyypilot ...

"The Burning Times"
(by Charlie Murphy)

Audience Count: 29,183

The Story...

We did this song back in 2004, and it was on the Bardic Circle back then. I hadn't listened to any of our stuff for several years, but I recently was in contact with an old friend now living in Miami. We were talking about music, and she said she still played our old stuff all the time and she and her friends really enjoyed it.

So I dug up our old CDs and heard them with fresh ears. And I am honored and thrilled I got to work with all these great musicians. Good songs, great singing and playing, and a lot of fun was had by all.

I'm enjoying remembering us first getting around the dining room table with an acoustic guitar and singing together, working out songs. And it was a blast figuring out how to do this song once Kerri had brought it in and suggested we cover it, as it obviously would be popular at our shows. It's VERY different from the original. Or any other version I've ever heard, for that matter.

We always got a good live response...I especially remember our doing this at Pagan Spirit Gathering in 2006 - what a great time!

Depending on the response, and no objections from other former band members, I may post another blast from our past after a while. I'm proud of our work.

So, here's a cover of Charlie Murphy's Pagan classic for all of you, to help re-open the Bardic Circle (I'm so glad the Vox brought it back) . Enjoy!

Recorded: Atlanta, GA - 2004
Guests/Players: Kerri Hirsch - lead vocals/percussion
Ric Neyer - vocals/percussion
Beth Witters - vocals/percussion
Mark Witters - guitar
Larry Tracy - bass/keys
Steve Fortuna - electronic kit drums

Technical Notes: The usual stuff. Recorded on a portable "studio in a box" in the guitar player's den. Every time we went to work on our tunes, we had to move furniture...then move it back once we were done.

Artist Profile: Skyypilot was a Pagan group that was basically a rock spinoff of the great vocal/percussion group Spiral Rhythm with instruments. Several members of that group joined up with some additional musicians to tour the Pagan festival circuit as an electric band and eventually do two CDs with the original lineup that's on this tune.
