Beyond the Painting
(words & music by Simon Papa & Marco Strega)BEYOND THE PAINTING The night is her mantle, bare are her feet She lights up her candle and walks the streets walk the night and follow the cobbled street til you find the place. Ancient walls where mist is merging what is real and what might come to be. Her hands draw illusions, weird is her stance exhaled from her vision veils of mist dance. Painting are adorning the courtyard where silence muffles sounds, in one of them a woman is standing now she moves, her eyes intense on you. From the painting she is aiming towards you if you stay there she will meddle with you too. If you let her, she will swallow up your mind she will catch you and you'll be dragged inside. Behind her shape black shadows move along a narrow shady lane, oblivious of the paths they're treading they just keep on walking round and round. From the painting she is aiming towards you if you stay there she will meddle with you too. If you let her she will swallow up your mind she will catch you and you'll be dragged inside.

The Story...
“Beyond the Painting” opens up the cd A Rose for Egeria, It has a hard pounding rhythm with the delicate vocals above. The song itself is about what is happening in the painting and how it affects the viewer. The woman in the painting has captivated the viewer and has drawn the person into the picture. Who is this woman and why is she so beguiling? At first you are drawn to her eyes which have singled you out among the viewers. She is hypnotizing and drawing you even closer into her mystical web. The shadow people in the picture—who are they and why shadows, not real people? Could they be others who have gone before you that were also entrapped in her mesmerizing glare? By the end of the song, the person viewing this picture has been hypnotized yet still has the option to walk away. Does this person stay and let her meddle in your mind and eventually drag you into her world? The answer is yet unknown. The song has the same effect on the listener—it will mesmerize and captivate you as the sound waves enter your ears. Will you let it drag you into her world as it has the shadow people?
