Try Try Again
(words & music by Trickster)

(Stag and Flower)
How have we angered you goddesses and gods?
What have we done to put the universe at odds?
Why have you cursed us thus?
What have you got against us?
What have we done to you?
What did we do? What did we do?

It never was a question of punishment or wrath
It's always been a matter of choosing your path
the goddesses and the gods can only set the stage
it's up to men and women to put ink upon the page

only you can judge if you've been naughty or nice
we can only watch and try to give advice
and as the story ends, so it also begins
now hear the words of Druid Four Winds

for thousands of years I've explored this world
hundreds of lifetimes my soul has unfurled
each time there are lessons to study and learn
and every time I die, there's so much more, I must return

it's time once again to live and learn and grow
time to share with others all the secrets that I know
time for me to choose another father and a mother
time to share the love and trust of family with each other

though it didn't work out here, there's no need to despair
for nothing can prevent my birth, I'll live again somewhere
and though there are so many things I might have shared with you
perhaps you have already learned a lesson or two

opportunities and obstacles are free for the taking
you've always had the power of decision making
Druid Four Winds will incarnate again
there’s never been a lack of fertile women and men

(all 4 Druid Four Winds incarnations)
try, try again
try, try again
try, try again
try, try again
where I'll wind up, don't you ask me
but Druid Four Winds will be free
free, free, free, free, FREE!

The Story...

Druid Four Winds is a Pagan rock opera, told thru 26 songs on a two disk set. It's a tale of men, women, gods, goddesses, life, death, rebirth, love, hate, trust, betrayal, freedom and responsibility.

This was a big project, taking two years to complete. Trickster recruited many of his favorite Pagan musicians from bands such as Wyrd, SONA, Dreamtrybe, Gypsy Fire, Cherries-n-Silk, Galapagos, the Raft, and of course Loke E. Coyote. The resulting music is much more than he ever envisioned. Druid Four Winds is also a vast departure from Loke E. Coyote's usual comic wiccabilly style. It's serious stuff, an emotional roller coaster.

The title character, Druid Four Winds, is an "ancient, wise and magickal soul" who's rebirth is foretold early in the opera. This character is represented by four incarnations: Merlin, an old wise wizard, DaVinci, a middle aged artist and scientist, D'Arc, a young warrior woman, and Sun, a witch child. Most of the opera revolves around the changing relationship between his parents to be, Stag and Flower.

Druid Four Winds is a long and complex story, too much to describe here. Details of the entire rock opera, lyrics, story line and audio clips from all songs are available at our website.

Try Try Again is the final song of the rock opera, containing the moral of the story, and returning the feel of the play to one of hope. In it, the two main characters Stag and Flower rail against the gods/goddesses for all that has happened to them. Hermes, a messenger of the gods, replies that everything which has occurred did so thru their own free will, that the gods and goddesses merely set the stage and tried to give advice. He then introduces Druid Four Winds who tells of his/her previous lives, how life is for learning, how a new incarnation is inevitable (albiet to different parents), and how they may have learned from the experience. The song ends with the opening chords from the opera's first song, symbolizing the circular nature of all things.

Recorded: here and now (well, there and then...)
Guests/Players: Trickster plays guitars and keyboards while Tabber Millard (of Dreamtrybe) drums and Fruitcake (of Cherries-n-Silk/Woven Dreams) lays down the bass line. Vocals are as follows:

Trickster (Loke E. Coyote) - Stag and the Merlin incarnation
Dana Davis (Butterfly Tree, Velvet Hammer, Wyrd) - Flower
Mick D'Arcy (Pagan actor/writer/director) - Hermes
Charley Stacey (Gypsy Fire) - DaVinci incarnation
Barbi Hatch (Galapagos) - D'Arc incarnation
Sun (Cherries-n-Silk, Woven Dreams) - Sun incarnation

Technical Notes: Recorded on a Roland VS-1680 digital to disk, this was the first song where we actually needed more than 16 tracks! The keyboards used were formerly owned by Ginger Doss of Dreamtrybe/Velvet Hammer. She can play them better, so we used a computer to sequence that part.

Artist Profile: Loke E. Coyote is usually a comic Pagan garage rock party band who got serious once. Don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen again. We've got some incredibly talented friends who helped us out on this project. We thank them all very much and urge you to give them a listen. Most especially, thanks to Dana Davis, the most awesome Pagan diva we know. Without her help, there would be no Druid Four Winds.
