Flora, Familiar of Lady Fennel  by Fennel Our friend, familiar and cat Flora passed into the Summerlands on December 25, 2005. She was 14 years old. Her life was a joyous gift of incomparable devotion and love and she is deeply missed. Flora was a brown mackerel tabby cat that was given to me when she was about four years old by my friend John Reifenrath. She was a patient, stodgy stubborn Taurus who loved food. In her younger days she was a stocky, plump matronly little person. She was diabetic the last five years of her life and patiently endured two insulin shots a day. Her diabetes made her lose weight and she was fragile and rather thin as she aged but still sweet and humble and homey looking. Her final undoing was a tumor in her throat that we were not aware of until it grew too large and inoperable. Flora was not a complainer and I wish she had been a bit more so for her sake. Flora was cuddly and purring and interested in her nightly kitty treats until the day she died. Flora is survived by me, Fennel and my husband John Reese as well as her long time friends Jonathan True and Julie Sipple and a pride of seven other cats including her lifelong friend and sparring partner Loki as well as Holly, Daisy, Sunny, Heron, Lily and Firefly. Flora gave me so much love, understanding, empathy and healing. She was always there even at times when human friends were not. Her love was unconditional and tireless. Her earthly body is buried in our magical garden and she is guarded and valued beyond compare by Bast and in this I take comfort. Any friends of hers who happen to see this announcement may feel free to visit her resting place if they wish. Flora loved everyone she met and was a friendly and welcoming ambassador of magical goodness to one and all. May she rest in peace. Long may she live.
