Poem - Solitary Witch

Solitary Witch
The woman gazed forlornly from high upon the hill
At the fires burning on the round of the village of her birth
She trembled at the screams she heard from the mouths of those she knew
And at the pain of torture that they were going through
The burnings were upon them, they were scattered far and wide
These chosen of the Goddess with no place to hide
With bitter sadness buried deep within her soul
She journeyed to that shaded place they hard shared not long ago
Her path was lit by sparkling stars as she quietly made her way
She was guided by the Raven and the Lady’s haunting call
She weaved among the tall oak trees, beside the rippling stream
Along the path of mystery to nature’s shaded nook
She cast the sacred circle and spoke hers words of power
And cleansed this sacred circle at the midnight hour
She called the quarters softly that we each know so well
To water, air, earth and fire to come to her and dwell
She called the Lady to her on this magick night
That they may come together within the bright moonlight
She twirled and danced in sorrow for what was lost to her
The lost ones of her coven, her many friends and kin
She remembered all the laughter, tears and joy that they had shared
And lamented the loneliness of the coming years
She meditated through the night till the break of day
Closed the circle one last time and then vanished in the mist
To this day her knowledge lives bound within our souls
Past down through generations through joyful midnight songs
The Crafte still lives and holds us tight each awaiting Raven’s call
Whether bound within a Coven’s grace or alone within our soul
