The Truth

~The Truth~
Black wings beat against the dawn...
A sight so few have laid eyes upon~
A portal existing between land and sky,
But for a moment...and then, is gone.
Yet in between fanning rays of light
Awareness grows to grant us sight.
Is this vision a heavenly door,
Or just a gateway beyond the night?
Through burning eyes I saw the sweet morning
Pass through the dark to be rebourne~
Innocent, unscarred by the daily grind.
We must follow with faith, or be left behind.
And ever since the birth of man...
We've known that we'd go home again.
Trusting the key was in the sky,
We longed to spread our wings and fly.
Too arrogant of our modern mind....
Believing life crawled from the brine~
The shining lights came from the stars
to offer us the truth divine.
But like wise words written,
Such fools we be~
"Do not believe....except we see!"
The truth Is out there before our eyes,
and "the Truth shall set us free!"

Author's Notes: I sat one morning watching "Hugin & munin" fly into the dawn, and after a night of sleep deprevation...and a writer's block, this poem just seemed to flow through my hand. Sometimes just a night of quiet reflection is enough to quench a writer's thirst.
