Suspended Fate
by Kissing Wind
Age Group: Adult
The last leaf clings to autumnal boughs
Though it dies from within.
Nothing can stop winter's coming onslaught,
But still it holds on
Clinging to a former life no longer its to live.
Suspended fate in every vein
As the North Wind screams of storms to come -
But still it holds on,
Awaiting a spring time that is not for it to see.
The seasons of its life are spent;
The fall will come in time.
But still it holds on;
Giving an illusion of strength where there's only fear.
Crippling fear to which it clings,
Dying without moving on
Though the North Wind blows, heralding the coming change.
Author's Notes: A reflection of the inability to look past the fear of death into the mystery of rebirth and the cycle of seasons.
