Paths to St. Neots Cross

Paths to St. Neots
Somehow this gift, this curse, the miracle
Passed down to me through my Motherís side
Through her fatherís fatherís great grand-uncle
Itís the St.Neots ancient cross we bear inside
I never knew my Grandfather the Hunter
He died just shortly after I was conceived
But I think his thoughts, I maintain his faults
He lives his grand fathersí dreams through me
Oh the Beauty Grandfather youíve shown me
Like when you lead me to your Loverís hollow
You brought me to Her, Mary glowing so Holy
Along this olde path from St. Neots we follow
In 1820 your own Great Grandpapa arrived here
To Upper Canada, a place called Precious Corners
This family history I just learned of last year
Though I'd already known I'd lived and died there.
All these lives leading from St. Neots...
I knew not Grandfather's great grandfather's land
On that day I rode up there with a heavy heart
(At the time She would not let me understand)
There so beautiful, familiar was the view, the sod
I wrote of lost ancestral hunting ground, this place
Of being able there to truly touch the face of God
All these moonlit paths leading to St. Neots...
So it all made so much more mystic sense later
When the next month you helped me understand
The dark secrets of one St. Neots prognosticator
This had been His grandfatherís brotherís land!
I felt so content and comfortable up there
Along this path branching out from St. Neots
Then last year I met another beautiful stranger
In the cemetery at the four corners hollow
Through her eyes I saw a miraculous manger
Back in the St Neots family mystery we follow
All this Light radiating from St. Neots...
I have never been to St Neots of course
But somehow I feel I can somewhat recall
There my old dark Loverís ancestral hand
And there the sweetest lay of the green Land
And Holy Sanctum inside an old low stone wall
Be this a gift, a miracle, a curse, or not!
Oh Grandfathers All lead me further down
Down these paths two-thousand years old
Now leading through St. Neots olde town
Reveal to me more of the great story yet untold
Author's Notes: I was thrilled to read about the 2000 year history recently unveiled in a archeological dig at St. Neots... caused wave after wave of shivers (Thank you Wvox) ! St Neots is where the most mystical part of my family - the lineage I am most intrigued and aligned with - emigrated from almost 185 years ago. It is the branch of the family tree most... ummmh... controversial. This poem is 4 parts fact, 3 parts true mystery, and 1 part what I chose it to be : )
