Though All Seems Lost... (Oh Little Fawn)

Though All Seems Lost... (Oh Little Fawn)
November 7, 2006
(
Oh little fawn on cold grass dead I'm sure you will forgive Her never Let me touch you on your deathbed That I may remember you forever
Oh little fawn now draw last breath As I lay myself down sad beside you Let me breathe in Life upon your Death Let my hand remove all pain inside you
Oh little fawn let your last blood drain Red to cleanse and feed the Earth Let me be witness in this falling rain May your last dream be of Rebirth
Oh you no longer sparkle little fawn Your shining eyes have turned dull black Your bright Life light may seem now gone But in due Time this Land will bring you back
Oh little fawn - to Earth - give up your heat While I cool down on the cold ground Knowing Here again next year we'll meet Though all seems lost... today you're found!
Author's Notes: Its deer hunting season here. And though it always seems kinda sad to kill such a beautiful animal, its not really --- there are so many deer here now that they are, as Leopold noted, threatening not only themselves but their habitat, and the habitat of many other species and the forests themselves, by their own too-muchness. She was ecologically correct to take a fawn for the larder today! Still it seems kinda sad... but not really... when we understand that all life is intimately connected and cycling through the land. Hunting can help better connect ourselves to the land, to time's mysteries. 'Healthy organic meat to sustain us... healthier herds to sustain themselves.... Enhancing life through measured death and full utilization. We get that, right? C.
