Listen to the silent winds
Until you can hear them whisper
To far beyond the noisy city sins
From where clean nights are crisper
Listen for the words of ancients
Until you can hear their whole old song
Sung from way before sad dying patients
From proud graves of those gone long
Listen to forever gentle rhythms
Until I can dance you through the night
Far beyond His book, their awful Hymns
Back to where we both stood up to fight
Listen for Truth's unsheathed sword
Until you hear and feel it pierce his shirt
Through the false sources of His word
To where scribes' blood rejoins the dirt
Listen then for the words spoken soft
Until they resonate so deep inside you
Not from angelic clouds so high aloft
But from dark poets here beside you
